The Official Selection Sunday Thread

i quite agree that AU will probably get a real beat down, but the anticipation and buildup to the game for AU's long suffering alumni will be quite enjoyable. has the time for the game been set, yet?

Welcome to the board. I was a grad student at AU for a couple of years in 94 and 95; I'd be rooting for you against anybody but us.

let's get over it. Most of the talking heads don't like the makeup of our team and our style. I agree to some degree, but we have been morphing into more of a tourney team.

...as proved by the second round out in the SEC tournament? I'm sorry, but UT is not built well for a strong tournament run. They don't rebound particularly well and they rely WAY too much on the 3-point shot.

I said last year before the tournament that I think that UT will get worse before it gets better (as far as a deep NCAA tournament run) because UT needs a better inside presence. However, Lofton will be gone next year, and UT will take a step back without him. I think that UT is potentially two to three years away from a really serious run in the NCAA, but it is going to depend on how well Pearl reloads the team with talent.

thanks for the reply. i think you and i are the only ones with any ties to AU that have posted on this board. although, from your time there you probably realized that the undergraduate student body is relatively apathetic when it comes to atheletics. i guess i can't blame them since they haven't had much to cheer about in atheletics since they "dropped" down to the Patriot League. by the way, what did you study in graduate school at AU?

I finally cut through the vinegar smell to respond. Pardon the delay.

Spoken just like the average idiot who knows little of our team. UNC is built perfectly for an early out because of the utter lack of D. Our rebounding has improved. Your D hasn't. All the tight games against mediocre teams should be all you need to see. UNC beat Duke and that validates for you the dominance of your squad. You might rethink that a bit.

DUH. Did you dream this, read it, think it or just started typing and this is what hit the page. Are you trying to prove you are smart or are you just stating the obvious? Could you go out on a limb and make your point or are you just typing to prove to yourself that you are capable of making a statement. What is your point.

I like that draw. Our toughest game to regional champ is Louisville. Hell, Indiana or Arky might beat UNC.

Your really dreaming aren't you. I cannot wait to dispose of the Vols.
Now having said that I'm proud of your team. Living in Knoxville....I like the vols club..much better than I do the football team.
UT needs to learn to do more than shoot three's and slam dunk...that's all they do.
Plus your half court Defense is not very good and against Carolina that's bad news.
I think if Tennessee gets to the final 8 though...you'll have continued your climb towards the top.
Good luck!

not being put out west with UCLA. I'd rather play the bruins than the heels. In that sense duke did well, tho the travel won't be fun.

Political science. My undergraduate degree was in English; I had plans of going into political journalism. I bailed out of the program because I couldn't stand dealing with all the Hill rats.

Amen! regarding your comment about the Hill rats at AU. my freshmen year roommate at AU was actually from Tennessee and he worked in the offices of a senator from from their named Jim Sasser (sp?) or something like that. every night he would come home and bore me to tears telling me how he got to sit in on some policy meeting and take notes.

my wife actually received her PhD from UT (Chemistry '93) so this week should be quite fun around our house. after you guys pummel us this friday i will be rooting for Tennessee to win it all! good luck!

i can't think of anything more ironic than a UNC fan talking about someone else's defense.

wanna tell me about any game in which UNC played a n even decent team and played any D? don't bother about Duke, because I'm not impressed.

for a quick history lesson, how many times has UNC been overrated at #1, only to head home early. Roy won it once, but he sure went home early for a long time prior.

I have plenty reason to doubt UNC.

Best of luck.

All this harping about our reliance upon the 3. Anyone remember Alford, Smart & Co cutting 'em down?

I always enjoy it when somebody uses relying on the 3 as a weakness as if there are a ton of teams in today's game grinding it out with a bunch of 7 footers in the post.

Actually, I hope they do show Vandy. Gives me the automatic reason to go to a sports bar and enjoy some beers. The wife is trying to create a honey do list and I am adamantly declining.
Honey do lists on NCAA tourney weekend? Back to training camp for you!!

KU - TX was a 3 fest.

In all reality, teams without the big 3 driller will get sent home.

As good as UF was, Humphrey was there saving grace in both tourney runs.
