A plate track is the only place you can really "luck" into a win. At all the others, even to win on fuel mileage, you actually have to run well to be in that position at the end.
I think if she sticks around long enough she can win. I don't think she would have gotten anywhere near here if she wasn't attractive. I would liken her to dale jr, but jr actually has real talent, and if you look at that 2000 season you would think he could be a champ.
As to the king, I bet he gets 5 out of 10 interviews asking him about her, so he spoke his mind.
I kind of want her to win at a real track and on pure pace just to shut folks like him and I up. Let her go to Dover and lead 66% of the laps and win on a g-w-c. I know I would shut up. For me plate tracks are a joke. Trevor bayne done much else in the Winston cup, Michael waltrip? Go win at the .5-1.5 mile tracks.
Problem is, if she wins we get our version of tiger watch, where the media keeps speculating and waiting with bated breath for her next win. I suppose we get that with Jr.
Let me sum it up. I am huge supporter of minorities in sports, especially motorsports. Most of of my favorite drivers are minorities. My issue with Danica is that looking at her career at this point she does of other minorities or pioneers in their disciplines:
Tiger woods, great golfer, Afro-Asian-American
Jeremy Lin, very good PG, Asian
Darrell Wallace Jr., great talent, black
Lewis Hamilton, great driver, black
Danica Patrick, attractive woman, race car driver.
I think to have the biggest or most meaningful impact as a pioneer you need to be exceptional at what you do so folks can never question why you are there.
There are guys with infinitely better open wheel resumes than she has, and they could barely sniff success in a stock car. There is no possible way she will ever amount to anything in a stock car than a mid pack driver.
Perhaps, she's young enough to get the experience needed to run well, but I suspect the novelty will wear off before then.
I am surprised he said anything and why now? I'm also wondering if he means Danica or women in general?
I love keeping an eye on the development series as you can see who will be fast tracked up the ladder and if you go and look at the development series and it is full of female drivers coming up the ranks going all the way into go-karts.
Just some names I think to keep an eye on over the next 5-6 year are Johanna Long (If she can find a ride had solid runs in a underfunded team in the Nationwide Series the last two years. The team shut its doors this winter. She is also a former Snowball Derby Winner!), Kenzie Ruston (Finished 6th in 2013 in her Rookie year in the K&N East Series with 4 Top5s & 6 Top10's, She will be diving in the K&N this season for Ben Kennedy Racing the team that finished 4th in points last season with 2 wins. Ben Kennedy will drive the #31 in the Truck series for Turner Scott Motorsports this year.), Mackena Bell (Finished 13th in 2013 in the K&N East Series with 2 Top5's & 4 Top10's in her first full season in the series.), Taylor Ferns (Had 9 starts in ARCA in 2013 with 5 Top10's & 4 Top15's.
A few others that are younger or haven't advanced as much as those listed above are Amber Colvin (If you watched she finished 3rd in last summer's Peak Oil/MWR search for MWR's next developmental driver that aired on SPEED.), Annabeth Barnes, Cassie Gannis
Where it is Danica or one or more of the ladies mentioned above or someone else eventually we will see a female driver come along that makes herself know for on the track accomplishments as much as off.
For some reason I didn't even think about him. And that's funny because he has probably had the most success of any of them. Even though it wasn't much.
Doozer how do you think JPM will do moving back to Indy car? I am kind of excited to see how he does in the 500 this year.
If he struggles, it won't be for a lack of equipment or team. I would expect him to have more success than Allmendinger. I consider him a favorite for the Indy 500, at least right now.
