The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

I'm assuming it's the one from last week? If so, yes.

Yep. So you don't think he owes any sort of responsibility to his employees? I would not be surprised if his crew cheif or team members get a bonus for winning a championship. I know being a team owner earns him a lot of freedom, but I think newton had some interesting points.

No. Everyone in NASCAR is handicapped by owners/sponsors/media. It's refreshing to see someone actually not act like a robot on, or away from the track.

Tony's sponors could be the only ones to say anything about this and I am sure they knew what they were getting into when they agreed to sponor Tony. I am sure his pit crew and people back in the race shop are disappointed that this happened but Tony is the boss and there isn't much they could say.

Dave newton has every right to shout, "I told you so!" From the hills.

NASCAR Stewart should concentrate on Cup - ESPN

Apparently smoke told newton at pocono that he didn't appreciate the article.

I know this was a freak accident, but after seeing what happened to kubica, I would stay away from high risk activities that aren't my race job. If you're Hamlin that includes basketball.

I don't agree. You can't live your life not doing things because of risks. Especially if you have the means to do so, like he and other cup drivers do. His only job isn't to drive a Cup car. He's a business man. I'm sure part of the sponsorship for his sprint cars comes from knowing he will be behind the wheel at times.

Very true. He could have just as easily gotten injured on the highway, or doing anything else. I guess I was just most taken by the article being written and being affirmed in a short time period.

Yeah, that was my 1st thought when I heard it on the radio this morning. Crazy that it happened the very next week.

I understand. It was better than Indy (not saying much) and I like Hendrick so I liked it.

Both races weren't that great and I think that's part of the reason why Indy was so empty. The stands looked pitful at Indy. I'm glad Kahne won over Gordon. I respect what Gordon has done but I have never been a huge Gordon fan.

I was pulling so hard for Gordon. It's good to see him performing well. I would love to see him get #5, but it would take a lot of doing.

I think this is jimmies championship to lose.

Ratings were up for both Indy and Pocono!

Ratings are up but attendance is down.

It's not even worth it to live in Indy and go to the race. Huh. I wonder how they can fix this.

So the increased ratings help NASCAR, the sponsors, and ESPN, right? But it hurts the track, and the teams to a degree in decreased memorabilia sales. Would NASCAR be reluctant to drop a track that gets good ratings but poor attendance?

This isn't just a NASCAR issue. Less successful NFL teams are having trouble drawing because the stadium experience is being marginalized by the TV experience. Nothing beats though attending a race. No TV can replicate the sound and the joy of not having to sit through 62 minutes of commercials. With 30+ races though, I think a ticket to a NASCAR race should be cheaper than an NFL game.

Someone is going to have to get hot in the Chase and stay hot through out those races to have a chance to beat Jimmie. That and Jimmie is going to have to have some bad luck too.

The 48 takes a bad day and finds a way to get a top 15, anybody elses bad day it 25th or worse. Blows my mind. I think it's really gonna come down to him beating himself in the chase if he loses.

Test him for PEDs

Doesn't every team "cheat" to a certain degree? I think its a product of them being fast already. Once the car is damaged, NASCAR is more lenient on inspection post race. They can lower the front end or make other adjustments that would typically make the car fail inspection without being penalized. I think Chad Knaus is a brilliant mind on the pit box.( not a fan of him so it burns me to say that). He pushes everything as far as he can till NASCAR tells him he's gone too far.

I know you are joking about the PEDs but this does bring up a good question. Do you think the 48 team is cheating and they are just doing it well enough not to get caught?

If you ain't cheating you ain't trying.

I believe this is most NASCAR teams motto
