The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

Never really got the appeal of why NASCAR came to Indy. The racing is just terrible here.

So the Brickyard 400 winner is out of the job and the 30th place finisher has a secure ride...

That being said happy for Ryan to score the win at his home track.

Welcome to today's NASCAR, where money is more important than talent.

How has that changed from yesterday's, last week's, last month's, last year's, last decade's or last ever's NASCAR? Or racing period?

It hasn't, but it just seems like the money used to follow actual talent a lot more directly than it does these days. With all the national endorsements and the huge audience, it feels like being "marketable" is FAR more important than actually being good.

On another note, from what I have read and heard, all 26 fans at the race today had a good time.

I agree. Money has always been a part of NASCAR but a it seems as though a few of these drivers are in top equipment simply to sell hats.

Exactly. I actually like Dale Jr, but when you're driving for the best team in the sport and have won exactly two races in five seasons with that team, its pretty evident that you're there for reasons other than your on-track performance.

I am harsh on Dale Jr., but he is actually having a tidy little season.

Also, don't look now but Jeff Gordon is in the chase as we sit!

He had a good season last year too. Still, if the bottom line was his on-track performance, two wins in five years driving for Hendrick simply wouldn't be good enough. That's why it's clear what the biggest asset he brings to that team is: his legion of fans that support him regardless of how well he's running.

I know.... I think Tony is making a deal with the devil by putting Patrick in a car. What value is she other than $$$? No reliable setup/test info. Shell always be the weak link at SHR.

I agree. Harvick is better than Newman. I understand that. I also understand that Patrick brings millions to SHR. She'll hinder the overall on track performance of the organization in the long run though.
