Why? Assuming he did come back in time for the Daytona race he would have missed 16 races. If you miss 44% of the season you shouldn't be allowed to compete for the championship for any reason.

I've heard some rumors that MWR will attempt to sign Denny Hamlin to drive the #55. Apparently Gibbs has fallen in love with Erik Jones and wants him in Cup soon as possible. Between Kenseth, Edwards, and Busch, Hamlin would be the odd man out.
