Am curious if Gordon will actually retire or if he will continue to race the big races in the coming years such as the 500, Talladega, Coke 600, Darlington, etc..

He said he's not closing the door on running select events but not planning to at the moment.

He doesn't really have anything to prove in Cup anymore. Instead I'd like to see him run races in sports car (Rolex, Sebring, Le Mans) and the Indy 500. Heck maybe even get a one-off in Haas's new F1 team.

Gordon is undoubtedly top 5. Earnhardt, Gordon, Johnson are all top 5. Then, you can argue Cale, Petty, and Pearson for the last two slots.

When you look at his on track success, yeah probably top 5. But then when you consider what he's done for the sport off the track, you can def make a case for #1.

He finally brought competition to The Intimidator which pissed off the rednecks. It fueled their hate for NASCAR's first driver that wasn't a good ol boy. He paved the way for the future guys in this sport.

There was competition before Gordon, don't fool yourself.

He took NASCAR mainstream. That stuff you mentioned was secondary.

That's why when you look at numbers, he's top 5. When you consider impact on the sport he makes a case for #1.
