He doesn't really have anything to prove in Cup anymore. Instead I'd like to see him run races in sports car (Rolex, Sebring, Le Mans) and the Indy 500. Heck maybe even get a one-off in Haas's new F1 team.

Gordon is undoubtedly top 5. Earnhardt, Gordon, Johnson are all top 5. Then, you can argue Cale, Petty, and Pearson for the last two slots.

He finally brought competition to The Intimidator which pissed off the rednecks. It fueled their hate for NASCAR's first driver that wasn't a good ol boy. He paved the way for the future guys in this sport.

He took NASCAR mainstream. That stuff you mentioned was secondary.

That's why when you look at numbers, he's top 5. When you consider impact on the sport he makes a case for #1.
