The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

Really interested to see the numbers this race did. I wonder if this new chase is working. I hate it, but it is dramatic and entertaining.

...the sport was already mocked as a whole.

Despite their best efforts, it's still viewed as maniac rednecks making left turns all day.

The sports biggest day is opening day. Nothing else on the calendar gets the attention Daytona does.

I view this format as an honest effort to change that. ...to keep it pointed towards growth.

You may not like the results this year, but the ratings are going up and phoenix was sold out on Monday.

We'll see how the ratings were for Phoenix, but Texas was the only race all year who's ratings went up from last years. TV ratings have been on a steady decline since 2008.

Harvick has been awesome all season. A few bad breaks is what has set him back but he and Gordon have been the class of the field all season. As long as Harvick brings the same effort he has all season, he'll win his first championship.

I agree on Harvick but I'd have to include Keselowski as a third party in bing the class of the field. But I am NOT a fan of his.

So from what I am gathering the way some of you are talking if a guy wins 10 races but finishes last in the rest he should be in the Chase?

I'd like to see the system set up so that in the elimination rounds every time a non-chaser won a race, I would lock in the guy with the most wins to that point in the season, then the guy with the second most wins, ect. That would make their efforts during the regular season count more and would guarantee that a race winner would win the championship.
And would basically do away with points in the chase. Everyone would be racing to win and not points racing.

Not at all. But to have a shot to win the sport's Championship without winning a race is mind blowing. Especially when a guy with 4 wins and 14 top 5s doesn't have that same shot.

Sure I get it. Upsets happen in all sports. But the Giants, Villanova, etc all had to win games to eventually win the championship of their sport.

Will any of these guys be a popular champ?

I say maybe harvick, but then again I hold him in high regard from 2001.

.....depends on how you measure popularity.

They all have their own cluster of fans but I can't imagine most of them becoming "jr." popular.

Logano is young enough to the focus of an ad campaign.

Hamlin maybe but he's always seemed kinda dry to me.

Newman.... he's the underdog but he has Gordon's followers all bent out of shape at the moment.

Harvick is kind of a wildcard. ....great driver but he's pissed off almost everyone at one time or another.

Nascar isn't like most sports where he champ instantly becomes the most popular guy in town. Kenseth has a title but he can't rep or sell anything because he has all the personality of a screen door.

Im a Gordon fan and I was pretty pissed Sunday. All I have to say is that Newman better win the championship or that foolish move would be for naught.

Question. Will the 3 drivers who dont win the championship revert back to regular points like the others who have gotten eliminated?

.....they are guaranteed to finish in the top 4. it's just how they finish.

Everyone else is racing for 5th and back.

I mean popular in terms of if most people will at least feel good to watch take the title.

I say Newman if he hadn't dozed his way to the finals. So now I say Kevin.

Outside of Kyle Busch, Darrell Wallace Jr. and Erik Jones have the most truck wins with 3 each. That gives KBM 13 wins on the year.
