The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

Happy for Dinger but it's sad because this is probably the last time we'll see Ambrose at a NASCAR road course.

They mentioned that he might not be back next year, but did they ever say why? Is he being fired or is the team folding?

Rumors this year have gained steam as Team Penske is looking into racing in the V8 Supercar series in Australia. Ambrose is a former Supercar champion, and Penske is interested in Ambrose driving the car, according to a recent report on a series website.

I just don't trust the media machine to do a good job covering this.

That's a fair concern. Maybe I'm just not cynical enough, but it feels like a big leap to say that because a guy has a history of being a hothead that he's capable of intentionally running a defenseless competitor over on the track.

The national media will parachute in, drop their uniformed opinions, and move on to their next knee jerk story within a few days. This leaves the NASCAB media to sort it amongst their fans who care and actually understand the who, what, when, where, and why of how it happened.

He also has a history (that's longer than being a hothead) of giving, compassion and supporting grass roots racing.

But let's nobody talk about that.

The internet mob who is rattling their sabres over this certainly isn't going to look that deep into Tony's personality. They'll see the story, then watch a five minute YouTube video of his notable incidents over the past 15 years and have their minds made up.

Stewart hasn't been the angry jerk since his days in the late 90s and early 00s. He's very mellow now and is one of the good guys in NASCAR and one of it's greatest ambassadors. He's one of the most approachable guys too, unless you're in the media.
