The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

He can't run the 500 next year. NASCAR has a rule where a team can't field more than 4 cars, unless it is for a rookie. And since he owns the team as well, he couldn't run for any other team without breaking the 5 team rule because his 4 teams would still count towards him.

Nascar would make an exception if Stewart wanted to run. They do for everything else so why not this too.

Id like to see him try it too but he already said he's not in shape for IndyCars anymore.

I would say that with his retirement TS would have the time to get into shape but we all know TS is really lazy when it comes to stuff like that so it wouldn't happen.

He has been there and done that. In my perfect world I would love to see him go run sportscars full-time for awhile. Would be cool to see Tony racing Le Mans or Sebring.

No NASCAR has a rule that if you have four teams as an owner you can't run for another team. Not to mention I'm not sure how the new charter system will change things either.

Like someone posted earlier, seeing as how they just changed the rules mid season last year to make sure one of their stars could still compete for and win the championship despite sitting out 1/3 of the season, I have no doubt they'd find a way to get Tony into the 500 field if he wanted to run it.

"Red Vest" paint scheme.

I thought the ARCA guys had all subbed for the Cup guys the way the Sprint Unlimited went.

Edwards looked like an ARCA sub with the move he made to cause the wreck. Not normal for him I know, but he KNEW Mcmurray wouldn't let him in. Mcmurray had been making his own rookie moves.

Changes on the NASCAR drivers council:

Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch are now part of NASCAR's nine-member drivers council, which enters its first full season as an official group.

Returning members include Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano.

Jeff Gordon(retired), Jamie McMurray, Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer are no longer on the council.

The drivers communicate frequently using the group text function on their phones - sending daily messages - and hold meetings with NASCAR every few months. It was formed last spring and drivers held their first meeting with NASCAR in late May.

Earnhardt acts as somewhat of a secretary for the group, managing the voting for elected positions (there are also spots for drivers who automatically qualify based on the point standings).

Keselowski was elected - and was pleasantly surprised by it. He called it his "Sally Field moment" because there's been talk Keselowski isn't respected in the garage, but he was obviously respected enough to get voted onto the council.

The current group met recently and discussed topics like tires, race day operations and the 2017 aero package, which Busch said is already under consideration.
