Surely you can't be shocked by the possibility of manufactured drama. I mean, as it stands, a guy who sat out for 1/3 of the year is sitting the the cat bird's seat to win the Championship.

I actually can't believe Gordon and Truex didn't just stay out and give it a shot. It would have been nearly impossible to hold on for 7 laps, but they just conceded defeat by coming to the pits.

I think both were so far back that even taken two wouldn't have brought them out in front of the leaders. Really their only shot was to stay out and hope for a miracle.
