There is another possibility that is similar to ancient aliens: ancient human civilizations. By that, I mean civilizations that pre-date the roughly 10,000 to 14,000 year modern human history that we're currently aware of. In other words, hundres of thousands, or millions of years ago, prior advanced civilizations (more advanced than our own) existed upon earth. Jacob and Smokie could be remnants of such a civilization. Other than the ultimate source of the technology, the effect would be the same as aliens from another planet.

What does everybody think about everybody off the island. Is it a parallel universe or a future look at what it will be like once they figure things out on the island?

it would be just like cuse and lindelof to throw everyone a complete curve at the very end. wouldn't surprise me one bit if it turned out to be something so far out there that not many saw it coming.

i am going to say its flashing forward and this is the reality once everything gets sorted out, although juliet did supposedely say "it worked" so that may blow that theory out of the water.

17,000 years. According to scientist who have studied the ruins close to machu Piccu and the Nazca Lines. The ones with Diamond tooling markes in (durilite?) the second hardest mineral on earth.

There is also a theory out there that life hear began on mars. No telling how many times we have been wiped out due to natural or unnatural causes.

This is what I think. The Juliet comment does sorta confuse things though.

Every other time we thought we were done with Desmond he always came back. For example, he tried to leave on the both, we thought we blew up with the hatch, Ben drug him back into the story line last year while he was with Penny and his kid. Also he was on the plane in the alt story line.

His time jumping was never really explained and he was the first to experience the subconscious memory/fate thing that is going on with the characters in the alt story line.

They tried to get him back to the island at the end of season 5 as well. Personally, I think he will be there till they end as long as Whidmore is involved.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Ben knows exactly what is going on but is playing dumb? Ever since they came back to the island and smokey took over his body Ben has been acting weird, but in an unusual way. Some of the things he said and they way he says them just don't add up.

For example, Locke mentions another plane on the island (the Nigerians), Bens says "what plane?". He obviously know what plane he is talking about because in season 3 we see him in the Dharma station below that plane with Juliet. It was when Paulo was hiding the diamonds in the bathroom.

Also look at the way he said "Your timing is impeccable John" it is so over the top. The way he acted around Jacob just felt contrived. Something just didn't seem right with him and I think we are supposed to be thinking that the Ben of old is gone but I think its actually just a trick.

A flash forward from where? They are in 2004. The date on Claires ultrasound confirms this.

The events we are seeing on the island are in 2007.

I dont remember if he died or not but Richard did say that he would never be the same. My initial thought was that the sickness that Sayid has had to do with the water in the healing pool not being clear. I wouldn't be surprised if Ben has the sickness though.
