The Official Lakers Thread

Yep. Pau will play 5 (which hes better suited for at this point in his career) put Randle at the 4, Henry at the 3 and Kobe 2 and Nash. If everyone stays healthy and they pick up some good FA's they could compete next year.

That's gonna be tough. Also, Pau resigning to the Lakers might not happen.

Plus with the draft picks we've acquired...the future is at least a little brighter.

Couldn't get much worse from last season. Hopefully everyone can be healthy and turn in a decent season. You'd have to think with a good year some FA's would give LA a much closer look.

I liked picking up a first rounder and Lin for basically nothing. I think we overpaid for hill but he's got a team option in his second year of the deal iirc so hopefully that will motivate him to have another solid year. We could be average this year but in the NBA being average kills you because you're stuck with middle round picks and have to really strike gold to land a superstar. We will see what happens.

Lol hey at least we got to keep Young and Hill.

Lin/Nash
Kobe
Young
Randle
Hill/Sacre

Would love to sign Greg Monroe or another good big man. Or wait and sign K Love next summer. Plus with the draft picks we've acquired...the future is at least a little brighter.

Hill was really good last year.

Lakers picked up Ed Davis and Carlos Boozer and Jordan Clarkson has been showing out in summer league (kinda like he did vs UT) Still a pretty glaring need to fill at the 3 position, but otherwise I feel better about next season than last. And they've managed to still keep long term financial flexibility. It is kind of bittersweet though, they probably won't get a lottery pick and will struggle to make the playoffs.

The pick from the rockets could be pretty nice.

George Karl
Lionel Hollins

George Karl has been a head coach since 1980 and has been to the finals once.

Lionel Hollins has never been to the finals and has only been the to conference finals once.

Byron Scott is around 10 years younger than these guys and has been to the finals twice, and was fired after making the finals because of Jason Kidd. New Orleans went 18-64 in his first year, and he took them to the conference semifinals 3 years later. Cleveland was a dumpster fire when he got there and the owner was an idiot so I'm not holding that against him.

Oh, and hes a Laker at heart through and through.

Anyone else?

It's all about the players. Coach won't matter until you get better talent. They're playing for the 8 seed, not a title. Good time to let Scott prove himself. Lakers are going to go nuts in free agency next year and the following year (new CBA). If you don't like what you see from Scott, it'll be a chance to grab someone else when you have enticing talent.

Scott went to the finals because of Kidd. Hasn't done much since(I'm not impressed by a 2nd round appearance). I doubt he'll do much in LA, JMO

Karl and Hollins both have overall winning records. Scott does not

The one time Karl went to the finals he had Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. Your point?

George Karl was coaching way before Melo came along.

And? Fired from Cleveland after 2 seasons then fired from Golden State two years later. Got lucky and inherited a great situation in Seattle. Had the best record in the league in 93 and lost in the first round. Do good coaches finish the regular season with 63 wins with a HOF PG and Shawn Kemp and lose in the first round?
