The Official Indianapolis Colts Thread

I wonder if NE is showing interest. They are a team that certainly needs some help on the edge.

They still play a 3-4 I think. From what I have gathered he wants to be in a 4-3. I heard the Pats are probably going heavy after Mario Williams.

That's how you clean house when you have a lot of aging vets. Hate to lose all those guys but they all were injury prone and older. That opened up a good bit of cap space and if we get the number 1 pick again next season, trade it to whoever loves Barkley the most and stock pile picks.

Bill Polian said that we have 80 mil open in cap space at the end of next season.

Well its definatly rebuild now since they cut so many players. Use your drafts wisely guys i cannot handle years like last year or the 80's and early 90's.

Next season will likely be rough, very few wins if any. But I love the long term vision. Getting next seasons #1 pick would be a very good situation on building a team long term.

Next season will be rough but I suspect they'll win more than 2 games.
I could be wrong but I think the defense will look much better and Luck will have a solid Year 1.

I'm not intimately familiar with the Colts roster, but it's hard to imagine the team will be better in 2012 that it was in 2011. And if Freeney is released, I might bet the under on 1.5 games won.

I'm not taking a shot at any Colts fans, just expressing an opinion. As it stands now and considering all the dead money on their salary cap, a new GM, and a new coaching staff, next year's Colts could be much worse than last year's team, except for the guy at QB. I just have a hard time thinking they'll be better. Maybe Luck is the second coming, but even Peyton only won 3 games his rookie season. However, if they really would have $80 million in cap space in 2013...Wow. Then things could get really interesting beyond that.

Hard times for Colts fans, but maybe this is the beginning of another great era. I surely hope it's not at the expense of the Titans, though. :)

I think the D will be better. I also think the offense will struggle especially if Saturday retires and Wayne is let go in free agency.

From what I heard Friday if they can't trade him they will keep him, not sure how true but it sounds like releasing him is not an option. I would like to see him traded, 19 mil is very high for a guy his age and putting him into a new system.

I would like to know with all the cuts Friday how much money that opens up. One more bad year for sure then with 80 mil open in cap space that could fix a lot of problems very quickly.

It can all change with FA, as I thought the Titans were a 4-win team before the preseason last year.

Anyway, I agree with your statement about $19 mil for Freeney. How do you see the defense being better without him?

Because going to a 3-4 I don't think he would be great as a stand up LB and I think he is too small to play on the line. I think the D will be better that it was last season with or without Freeney.

I agree. I can't see Freeney being nearly as effective in a 3-4. Better coaching for the defense next year is a given (but it would be hard to be worse than the atrocious staff of last year). I am also hopeful that the Colts will pick up some secondary free agents this year which will help.

Offense will be difficult to watch but how much worse could it be than this past year? Painter had no clue on how to get the ball to Wayne so he was ineffective, Gonzalez never saw the field, Clark was terrible (or hurt), Addai was hurt most of the season. Losing Garcon will hurt but if they can pick up someone who can stretch the field, I don't think it will be a huge loss.

Finally, I think psychologically, the team will play tougher knowing that no one thinks they can win more than 2 games.

Y'all keep saying Clark was terrible, but he was a huge piece to the Colts' success last decade. What am I missing here? He was hurt last year, but the guy was a 1,000 yard receiver as a TE. He had some drops, but he was also a big piece of that offense.

He was terrible last year without Manning. Yes, he had special chemistry with Manning but I just don't think that would be replicated with Luck. No hate from me - hope he catches on with someone else and has sucess.

Thanks for your opinion, OaSaV.

I agree, he was one of the most valuable parts of the decade but it's almost like if Peyton is not throwing him the ball he can't catch it. He has never been able to run block. I really enjoyed having him on the team and hope he does well where ever he goes.

Clark is overrated. He is good, and a special talent, but more than anything it was about Peyton. Tamme was a nobody and stepped in when Clark got hurt, and led the league in catches for the last half of the season. I like Clark, but the system made him a pro-bowler.

He also had a habit of dropping easy catches. He'd lose focus. He'd make the best catch of the day, and the worst drop. He was inconsistent.
