The Official Indianapolis Colts Thread

Well...then congratulations to the team on a season tied (with 1974 and 1981 - not including the strike-shortened season) for the second-worst in franchise history...I guess

Good. Cleaning everyone out. Now we get to see who comes in. Gruden?

Fisher has let it be known he wants to coach here or with Tampa Bay. He said he wants to either coach Peyton/Luck or both. I don't believe a big time coach would have come with the Polians in place. I would rather have Cowher than Gruden.

I'd rather have Cowher too but haven't seen or heard any interest on his part. I figure Gruden would love to have control and a franchise qb to work with.

I haven't seen anything either. Listening to Gruden on MNF, I think he was begging someone to hire him as coach again. His brother would be a great choice also. I would not mind Fisher if he had little to no influence on the offense

Sounds like to me clearing house with coaches and players. Will the next GM like to start his tenure with Luck? It would be cheaper to sign Peyton i believe.

You do realize if Peyton is on roster on March 8 (not 100% on the date but close) he is due $28 million?

Polian is Ringo, and Manning is the other 3 Beatles. It seems clear now that without Peyton, Polian's career at Indianapolis would have had a far different result.

For prospective NFL head coaches and GM's (and their agents), this is a great situation to propose a package deal to Jim Irsay (X = GM and Y = head coach). Although Irsay didn't say it, the chance that Caldwell continues as head coach with a new GM is zero.

I agree 100% on both issues. John Clayton was on Mike and Mike this morning and he said the only way Cowher comes back is if he gets three things:

A great QB situation, check
$7 mil a year, ?
He wants to be GM and HC, ?

What head coaches in the NFL are also GM's? Timewise, I think it would be difficult to do both. If I were Cowher, rather than being the GM and having to deal with all of the salary negotiations and scouting, I'd just propose someone I knew I could work with to handle those things.

Luck won't have to worry about some idiot kicker missing a chip shot next season, he will have a Hall of Famer.

Luck won't have a dominant running game or a great offensive line. Can't blame your kicker when you go backwards in OT.

I am not really sure. It probably would be hard to do but that's what he wants. I don't see that happening for the Colts but who knows. I no longer think we get Fisher, I am sure he will be gone very soon.

That's why I qualified it by saying "Polian's Indianapolis career".

I'm not sure how it can be qualified. The roster would've been constructed differently. Who's to say he couldn't have gone to another Super Bowl or two with a different roster?

I certainly do not buy this critique. It's like saying, "Well, what would've happened if the Americans didn't nuke the Japanese in WWII?"

So he would've decided to draft good interior linemen if he had a different QB?
