i hope the colts lose their game next week too after their "strategic" moves shown today. i understand the logic, but still hate it. you play to win the game every week, no matter what the situation is....injuries are going to be part of the game regardless. just get out there and play. it irks me to no end to see a team fold up and give away a game like that on purpose when they very well could have (and would have) won had they kept manning in.

You are way off base with that. Sure every player wanted to play and wants to win every game, but everyone is clear that the prize is still in front of them. Before the season starts no players goal is to go 16-0. The Colts have accomplished all of their goals up to this point.

not at the beginning of the season.. but when you 6 quarters away from 16-0 i think it is.

Question... i understand why manning was upset with the decision. so why did he come out and say before the game .." i play, caldwell coaches and whatever he tells us im behind". I think he likes to be the "perfect guy" ... but when it comes down to it hes a douche.

Of course he and all players wanted to play and go for 16-0, but Caldwell is the coach and Polian is the GM, what they say goes and that is final. He is a player just like everyone else on the team, he is not the coach.

Well let's see....pulling them in the 3rd Quarter right after the offense had pretty easily driven down the field and they had a chance to take complete control of the game, well that's a lot different from lifting them early in the 2nd quarter. That far into the game anyone who's worth their weight in salt would want to finish the game and get the W.

Plus you probably need to figure out that being behind someone doesn't mean you 100% agree with them. Your "hes a douche" comment is totally unwarranted because at no point had he said he's upset with the decision. Sure he didn't look happy but in case you've never noticed, Manning doesn't look happy on the sidelines most of the time.

Yeah it has nothing to do with the fact that you've been trolling about Colts' fans being bandwagon fans and likely has nothing to do with the fact the Titans usually can't beat him.

It sounds like you're trying to describe Brett Favre, who whines and cries when the coach tells him to sit. Since when is it a bad thing to respect your coach?

I'm as upset as anybody about this decision. History has shown this strategy doesn't pay... but obviously Polian and Caldwell think otherwise.

Even if the Colts win the Super Bowl, this decision will be scrutinized. Should this have been the first 19-0 team? It would've solidified Peyton's legendary status.

If the Colts don't win the Super Bowl, this decision will receive much of the blame.

I really don't understand it. It's 2005 all over again. This Colts team will now go about a month without playing a full, competitive football game... and they will be expected to WIN against a team which has been VERY competitive over the last month. It really doesn't make sense. You have a Colts team which was unbeatable up to this point. Now... they're not even playing to win. I think this changes the whole mindset of the team... in practice and in games.

Bad move.

We are going to disagree on this one, I am not bothered at all by not going for 19-0. It would have been great to be the first team ever to do that, but we were missing 2 starting OL. If you ask any NFL player what their goals are before the season I can guarantee you none of them will say going 19-0 is a priority.

I hate losing more than anyone in the world but I also know there is a bigger prize to be had than winning a meaningless game in late December.

This is why I think this is different than 2005, the starters played into the 3rd qtr, which will keep them in a groove. I suspect they will do the same this week, depending on the weather.

Let's give Caldwell a fair chance here, I trust him and Polian.

I disagree. You play the starters as long as it takes to win the game. If I was a season tik holder I'd be pissed big time. You pay to see the stars, you pay to see the best team on the field, you pay to see the win. Peyton may have been diplomatic in his comments but his expressions were clear....play to win. If you're worried about injuries then you should never start the "players".

Any season ticket holders should know that they will see this team in full force 1 probably 2 more times at home this season. Why play your star players in a game that means nothing, 2 out of 5 OL were backups, and Ugoh is aweful at LT, I don't want Manning out there with Ugoh protecting his blindside.

I want to win every game, but give me a healthy team in the playoffs over 16-0. When this team is healthy I believe it is the best team in football

If the player's health was the true reason, then it makes no sense they played the entire Jacksonville game and almost 3/4's of the Jets game. The Jax game was just as meaningless as the Jets game from that aspect.

If they did it to decrease the pressure on them, I think that one backfired. Now if they don't win the SB, then they will be crucified for the decision.

You can't sit them for 3 games, that would mean they sat 4 weeks. This is why I like the way they have handled this, play them enough to keep the guys on the same page but not so much that the risk of injury in increased.

It really is a no win for Caldwell and Polian, we will just have to see who proves to be correct.

They could have easily just played them the first half only in both games. The injury thing doesn't fly with me because it makes no sense to play them for 1 and 3/4s of a game but act like that last 4th quarter was some injury trap. That's freakin' lame.

You'd be about the only one that likes the way they handled it. I think it was pretty bad. If you're going to sit them, then sit them earlier. Don't wait until almost the 4th quarter. THAT is the biggest problem I have with it. Either go all in or make it clear you're not going for the undefeated record.

He wanted to play them enough to keep them in rythm, which he did. As I have said 2 of the 5 OL were backups. And all you who now are saying he should have played them would be calling him an idiot if Peyton got his leg broke.

They were as clear as they could be that they were not concerned about going 16-0

Again that's lame....he's not missed a start in 12 years. How likely is it that it would have happened? Why is it more likely it would happen in the 4th quarter as opposed to the first quarter?

And no, they were NOT clear they weren't going for the 16-0. They said business as usual, and again WHY play the entire Jags game? No matter how you spin it, that decision now makes no sense because that game was completely meaningless and they could have easily just played a half and stayed active. You certainly can't say they were clear they weren't going to go for 16-0 when you wait til 5:00 left in the 3rd quarter to pull starters.

The game against the Jets wasn't the first game the Colts have played with 2 backups on the OL. Charlie Johnson and Ryan Lilja have been out for several weeks with Ugoh and Richard starting in their place.

The Colts will have 2 weeks to get "healthy" for their first playoff game. Polian needs to stop playing the "health" card... the strategy has NEVER worked in the past. I'd much rather take an UNBEATABLE team into the playoffs.
