Andrew Luck joins Dan Marino and Peyton Manning as the only QBs to throw for at least 4,000 yards in two of their first three seasons.

So, I mean...is there really any reason for Irsay to bring this back up without prompting? Almost seemed like he went out of his way to do so.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay calls Peyton Manning-Andrew Luck decision 'right thing to do' - ESPN

Colts owner Jim Irsay took a moment from his team's celebration of reaching the AFC title game Sunday to publicly revisit his critical decision to cut Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning in 2012 so he could use the top pick to draft Andrew Luck.

"I knew it was the right thing to do for the Colts,'' Irsay said outside his jubilant locker room after the Colts' 24-13 playoff win over the Broncos.

Luck threw two touchdown passes and outplayed Manning in powering the Colts past Denver and into the AFC championship game next Sunday at New England (13-4).

Manning, asked after the game if he planned on playing next season, said, "Uh, yeah, I guess I just can't give that simple answer, I'm processing it. So, I can't say that. I could not say that.''

It was seemingly the first time the former Colts star had been ambiguous about his future since spinal fusion surgery on his neck cost him all of the 2011 season.

"I saw Archie [Manning] last night" Irsay said. "We had a nice conversation. Happened to be at Elway's Restaurant at the Ritz Carlton. It was a decision that it was the right move to make. Peyton and I had talked about it. He said it best in the press conference, I didn't decide. He didn't decide. The football gods laid the cards out. We both knew it as best for him and us.''

Irsay's comments came six days after he lauded Manning's release and Luck's selection as a win-win proposition for both players and both the Broncos and Colts.

"To me, it's been tremendous that my vision at the time was it would work out this way, that Peyton would be able to go somewhere, continue his greatness, continue his career," Irsay said. "We would be able to go forward with Andrew. Again, having the type of success we've had so soon I think was a surprise to me."

Irsay has said he and then-team president Bill Polian started discussing how and when to transition from Manning to his eventual successor as early as 2010. Irsay said they determined at that time that most prominent quarterbacks started declining at about age 38. Manning will turn 39 in March. Two years later, Indy kicked off the rebuilding process by taking Luck with the top pick.

The transition from Manning has gone extremely smooth for the Colts. Luck has led Indianapolis to three straight 11-win seasons, three straight playoff appearances and back-to-back undefeated seasons in the AFC South. Luck led the NFL in touchdown passes with 40 and was third in passing yards with 4,761 this season.

"[Luck's] magic, when you watched him in college, when the play breaks down, in that half a second, he does things that are so innate and so unusual; that's when the magic happens," Irsay said. "He just decides in a split second, and he has the athletic and the physical skills to do that with his arm strength, with his feet. So really the sky is the limit. You hate to bring up comparisons with John [Elway] being there running their program and stuff, but John was that way of course at Denver."

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Josh McNary charged with rape - ESPN

Prosecutors have filed charges of rape, criminal confinement with bodily injury and battery resulting in bodily injury against Indianapolis Colts backup linebacker Josh McNary.

Peg McLeish, a spokeswoman in the city prosecutor's office, confirmed Wednesday that the charges were filed.

According to the probable cause affidavit, two Indianapolis police officers said a 29-year-old woman accused an unknown man they later determined to be McNary of attacking her in the early morning hours of Dec. 1. Police, according to the report, determined the man was McNary after investigating a cellphone the woman claimed she took from the man's apartment.

In the report, police said the woman also picked McNary's image out of a group of photos.

The police also wrote that when they arrived at McNary's apartment to investigate, McNary said: "I know why you're here." The report said McNary claimed to have preserved evidence because he expected the police would be coming.

McNary has been with the Colts for two seasons after finishing his college career as Army's career leader in sacks and tackles for loss. McNary spent two years on active military duty to fulfill his commitment before signing with Indy in 2013. He had 20 tackles during the regular season and no tackles in the playoffs, and still serves in the National Guard as part of his military obligations.

Indianapolis (13-5) faces New England (13-4) on Sunday in the AFC championship game.

The Colts issued a statement saying they're aware of the allegations.

"Unfortunately that's the limit of our knowledge," the team said. "At this time we are very concerned and trying to find out what the relevant facts are, but we have insufficient information to venture any opinion. As we learn more we will make appropriate updates."

The woman, whose name was redacted from the document, claimed the two engaged in a "physical fight" and that she scratched his neck, face, back and shoulder before the alleged sexual assault took place. According to the report, the woman also said she believed the man slapped her on the left side of her face with his hands before forcing himself on her.

Police reported that a nurse found dried blood behind the woman's ear after she consented to a sexual assault examination, and that a friend of the accuser played a 2-minute voicemail from the women for police.

"At one point, the female can be heard crying and becoming emotionally distraught," the report said.

He keeps bringing this up only to give himself a public slap on the back.

I figured. Seemed like he brought it up to either inflate his own ego or as some "See, I was right nyah!" to throw at everyone that had given him criticism over how he went about handling the end of the Manning situation.

Any time I hear someone say "Colts owner Jim Irsay said" they don't even have to finish the rest, I automatically say to myself oh no please shut up.

VFJ - good to see you back posting. Where have you been? Irsay is a clown but at least he seems to leave football decisions to his coach/GM (unlike his dad).

If Luck doesn't try to force his throws and the Colts defense plays the run better than they did in the regular season game, I think the AFC Championship Game will be closer than people think.

More of a reader lately than a poster, you been doing well? Agree on Irsay, football wise he has been a good owner (firing Caldwell and Polian) just wish he would not talk or tweet.

Have to stop the run or slow it down, put Mike Adams on Gronkowski or maybe even Davis. I believe we will score points, Luck is playing out of his mind right now. Maybe the best or second best QB in the league.

Rodgers
Brady
Manning
Brees
Roethlisburger (the most debatable)

All better than Luck. And I'd still probably take Wilson before Luck. Luck is in that next group though.

Today? You would take all 6 of those guys above Luck? The only one that has an argument is Rodgers, I would not argue him but I would argue Luck is better than everyone else on that list.

I'm doing great since Jan.1. Saw the Vols kick ass in Jax and the Colts win two playoff games!

Don't think anyone on the Colts matches up with Gronkowski but don't want someone else exploding also.

There is no stopping they guy but I think Mike Adams man to man and maybe hit him at line of scrimmage, don't let him get a free release.

I would take all of them over Luck for one season except maybe Big Ben. Obviously a healthy Manning.

Luck has the chance(and will likely pass) all but one of them(AR) as far as being better than. Just not at the current moment.
