“So yesterday I was enjoying the Texans win before moving on to the next opponent. Today, I’m prepared to look ahead (a little nervously). Not so much because I think the Chiefs are a great team this year - the Texans have already beaten better (and lost to worse, but never mind that). There are a few things against the Texans in this one.
First of all, the Texans are 5-11 all time against KC (including playoffs). Not terrible for an expansion team, but that isn’t why. The Texans started out 3-2 against KC, and are 2-6 since 2010, with 5 straight losses since their last win in 2019.
Next, the Texans tend to struggle in Prime Time games. They are 19-30 all time, and 1-2 so far this year. However, they were 2-2 last year, and 1-0 in 2023, and they won their last prime time matchup (against a good team), so maybe that’s turning around.
The encouraging thing is that KC hasn’t been very good against decent teams this year. They are 2-6 against teams with an even / winning record when they play, and 4-0 against crappy teams.
They needed overtime and a total collapse of the Colts offense to beat Indy, who ended the game with 4 straight 3 and outs. Also worth noting that KC had only one TD in that game and 4 FGs - this isn’t the KC offense you think it is.
Well, it was against the Lions - their signature win. 4 TDs and a field goal in a 30-17 win where KC showed up strong in the 4th quarter. Can’t sleep on them, because the potential is still there, and the defense is still good - allowing 19.4 points per game, 7th best in the league. The offense is still averaging 25.4 points per game - 9th best - but the Texans just shut down the top offense in the league, and destroyed the Bills offense (5th in the league). I don’t think rankings mean much to Houston.
I think the Texans are the better team, and should win this one. I also think the Colts are better than KC, but they lost. The Chiefs are a tough out. I’ll predict the Texans winning 23-15, in keeping with their string of odd final scores this year.”
