Half the point I was making.
These people are insane aren't they?
Mullen has the best gig in all of college football, on schedule to get another raise and extension... and someone thinks he is going to take a pressure cooker job with a huge pay cut.
:hi:
Gotacha.
I mean at the end of the day, I agree... meaning you either want to coach at a school or you don't. Which is why LSU bailed on Jimbo once the figures were being given. Mullen has a sweet gig for sure.
He is going to get a MASSIVE raise, if he leaves MS. imo
My point is he's done nothing at MSU worthy of a big time raise at another school. You are correct he's got a sweet gig. He's making $4.5 million a year to go slightly above .500 in conference play and win the Egg Bowl.
Butch took Bama to the wire too a couple of years ago. I dont get how people see Mullen as an elite coach.
Ive read a lot of talk about how UT is supposedly swinging for the fences this time. Mullen is definitely not swinging for the fences.

Tennessee's top two rivals in the east Florida & Georgia don't want Mullen because he is not a good enough coach to win.
And some of you think it's good to get a coach that Tennessee's rivals don't want....🙄
Just as a reminder, when Nick Saban was Dan Mullen's current age, he was at 12-11-1 at Michigan State. Saban didn't win his first national title till age 52, after taking the job at LSU, where he had more resources and a much better recruiting footprint than at Michigan State.
This idea that Dan Mullen would be a mediocre hire is rubbish. He's by far the most successful coach in modern Mississippi State history. So many people here at VN are dramatically underestimating how much of a disadvantage Dan Mullen is competing with at Miss State versus teams like Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, and Auburn. He's 23 - 23 over the past 6 seasons in the SEC West competing against teams with vastly better resources. That's a better conference record than James Franklin had against much tougher competition in the SEC West.
He turned Alex Smith into a top NFL prospect, Tim Tebow into a national championship QB at Florida, made Dak Prescott elite, and this season he's 7-3 with a 2-star QB in Nick Fitzgerald. The dude knows how to coach up QBs! Imagine what he could do with former 5-star and #1 ranked Dual Threat QB Jarrett Guarantano!
With Tennessee's resources, Mullen could achieve more than he has at Miss State.
I'm actually on the Norvell bandwagon. The more I read the better he looks. But I'm pretty sure if it's him, it's going to get ugly until he starts winning.
Come on, We'd at least never lose to Vandy or Kentucky or South Carolina. Its an improvement.
People look at his record and think that paints the whole picture. It doesnt.
In relation to talent Mullen consistently and significantly out performs his talent. Think of I this way, in the SEC he should lose almost every game based on the talent he has, but hes won almost half of his games.
In other words, the vast majority of wins he has should be losses based on how the expected performance of most coaches in his position.
I think hes a helluva coach and he gets the most out of his talent in the SEC. hes not a sexy hire, but hed be good.
That said, I hope he could recruit to UT because it would take his over performance coupled with great recruiting to have real long term success here.
