True Dobbs isn't our only problem area on offense, but if you've watched many games from the past two years then there's no way you can justify thinking Dobbs is anything more than a back up.

This forum is so blind on many things, but more blind to the QB situation. I'm all for backing the players on the field, but that doesn't mean you can't recognize a continual problem area over multiple seasons.

Our biggest problems on offense are O-Coach, and a QB that is decent, but not championship caliber. And if championship status isn't the goal then there's no point of playing. Then lastly our HC who will, when given the chance being up on a decent team, will try to ride the game out. Then ultimately wear our defense out from being on the field all game. Hopefully he's changed, but sorry for not just believing he has like many. I tried last year and it burned me many many times. And many thought he turned the corner against UG, but he didn't. As long as the opponent is firing back and keeping the game close , or ahead of us then it forces HC to keep the foot on the gas rather than idle. Everytime we scored against Alabama last year I was wanting Alabama to counter. We needed the game close so that HC didn't lax up. It just didn't work out in the end that time.

Mark my words, our running backs(Hurd) will get injured if we continue to rely on him as much as we have. The passing game has to be there to open the field up for the run. I was pleasantly surprised he held up so well last year.

I'm tired of everyone seeing one or two decent passes out of a handful of bad and believe he's a superstar. Just because you have experience doesn't mean you are the most qualified.

And to be fair, I like Dobbs the guy. He's a hell of a VFL! But that doesn't mean he's automatically the best suitor.

Hall of fame worthy post. Sorry it's a Gator giving you the kudos.

Passes down the field will be nonexistant if we cannot pass block, which if tonight is any indicator, we can't.

I'll give you that the pass blocking was bad, but that doesn't excuse the refusal to attempt passes beyond 5 yards when you have a mobile qb. If it was 2015 Peyton back there, I'd be okay with that argument. Dobbs won't get any better on the roll out pass handing off the ball and dumping it off behind the line of scrimmage.

Omfg! Wake up call is all I got to say. Appy is a good team, but luck was on our side for once late in the game. Gonna be a long season. Hope were ready

We came out flat, made mistakes, our offensive game plan was built to play conservative, and Appy came to win. If any good comes of it maybe it is the scare they needed. It was game 1, and we are 1-0, no matter how we got there. Maybe a different game had Sutton not fumbled and JRM not got ejected, who knows. Either way, a win is a win and we will see how they react.

I have seen many teams struggle in their opening game. And go on to win their conference. Be patient.

I was thinking that UT would be the team to beat in the East this season. While I believe that App St. is a pretty good football team, they're not SEC. UT's offense is not a championship caliber team. And the defense is not good enough to carry them. I think UT loses 3 SEC games and will be 1-1 after Va. Tech.

well i disagree,I do think that the Vols will be better than this game, going forward

Lol you people are killing me. We're going to be fine. App state is a very good team,it's not like we played a push over. I doubt we really drop in the polls. We won. If we had lost, I could see us dropping, but we won. On the record it won't say 1-0 (but they sucked, might as well be 0-1.) it will say, 1-0. That's all. Next weekend is a different ball game. Go vols!!

I think we will rebound also. We did it last year as well. I just see the continual problems. Eventually the same issues have to be addressed if we want to be better than the previous version. If you aren't trying for higher then there's no point. It like my fav NBA team, the Grizzlies, for the past recent years they were content and felt victorious making the playoffs. You'll never go beyond if that just the end goal, just enough to get us there. This offseason they made some decent moves tho and appear to be finally trying to make the next level. To bad it's probably to late with our aging, injury prone squad.

With a lot of questionable calls and phantom leg cramps .... i believe the Vols did pretty good. The commentary calling needs a lot of help those two put me to sleep. I think they had a basic playbook tonight and it bout bit them too.

They just want to punch him in the face.

Classy gesture imo.

I think us winning an ugly game early is good. Lowers the hype train and players will gain better focus and are not going to look over anyone, which I believe they were tonight.

I could care less if they went 12-0 and every win were ugly and went to OT as long as they win.
