The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

I was finally able to fix one of the many gun regrets I’ve had in my 30+ years of firearms. My dad and I went to cmp years ago when they offered the M1 Carbines. We picked out a carbine together and took it to the range a few times and shot the snot out of it. It was always a reliable, fun, lightweight rifle to have on the range or field. I ended up trading it away over something surely stupid. Anyway, my dad passed away in 2014. Last week, I was able to locate the little carbine and bring it home, where it belongs. She’s still a sweet shooter.

So, after a few weeks of delay due to the FFL on my end deciding they didn't want to do Class III transfers anymore, my 6933 will be on it's way here within the next couple / few days. FYI, cancelling an existing Form 3 and resubmitting a new one turns the ATF sideways, so make sure you get it right the first time.

In the meantime, I have devoted a lot of time and a respectable quantity of Yeungling-assisted thought to exactly what I am going to do with the new rifle, and the existing HD Colt (6721). I offer the following plan up for review and any suggestions:

- 6933 will be my default duty / HD AR. Current one (6721) will serve as the backup. AR #3, also a 6721, will remain unchanged. It sits in the closet with a Nikon 3-9x40 P-223.
- Aimpoint PRO will move to the 6933. The 6721 gets a new Vortex Spitfire 3x to replace the PRO.
- 6933 comes with a Magpul BUS, so I'll absolute co-witness as I did with the 6721.
- Geissele SSA-E, Raptor ambi CH, Hogue grip, Bravo B5 stock, MS-2 sling, and now we come to the question of the light...
- 6721 has the TLR-1HL. I have a Scout on the shelf. I am tempted to leave the TLR-1 on the 6721 and mount the Scout on the 6933 due to it's simplicity (tail switch, and on or off). The strobe function of the TLR-1 is nice, but in the stress of an actual engagement, I'm leaning towards "simple is better". Either way, the light is on an MCTAR FSB mount.

So there's Plan A. I have plenty of time to think it over, decide, and acquire, since the new rifle will be in FFL jail for anywhere from 6 to 10 months until the ATF stamp comes through.

Oh...ammo. In a departure from my love for all things Federal SBCT, the 6933 will be fed Hornady TAP 75 SBR ammo. From what I have read (a lot), this is a solid round in SBR's.

I'd kinda like to get the opinion(s) of GV, DTH, YV, and any others here who have any experience or info to share in this arena. I have a lot of time, and a limited budget, to set this rifle up, Prefer to get it right the first time.

I'll hang up and listen.

I've pretty much got the same kind of set up (minus the lights, never really been my thing).

I have the PRO on the RDB.
I have the Spitfire 3x on the Saint.
Still have no idea what I want to do with the M5E1 (AR-10). Having the 20" barrel, I'm leaning towards a 4-12x.
I need a simple red dot for the KSG.

I wouldn't mind picking up a 3rd AR just because.

That's awesome. Love stories like that.

Your attention to detail cracks me up. I love it.

Spitfire 3x: My only question on it is can you still go both eyes open for close-in shots (out to ~50 yds), or do you have to close one eye and stay "behind the magnification"?

As for the light, it's a must have IMO for a duty/HD AR. The light works both ways, but used wisely, it makes a difference.

AR-wise, this is it for me. I'll have a compact duty gun; a very capable backup; and one set up for longer range. The most important point here being that I now have double-redundancy with my AR platform(s). Understanding the restrictions of the SBR, any one of my uppers will mate with any one of my lowers in an emergency. That, and the spare BCG I bought leave me fairly confident that I'll never not have a working, HD-capable AR.

Well, until Beto rings my doorbell, but I'll deal with that when the time comes.....

EDIT: The fact that you've got a similar setup tells me I'm on the right path.

Bout $5

I was originally likely to go with a 1-8x, but have now decided at a minimum, I'll likely do a 3-9x.

Black Friday is a good time to look for deals on glass. Most major outlets will have some kind of sale but some lesser known ones do also.

This place historically has some good deals.

If I was looking for a mid power scope that Bushnell Elite LRTS 3-12x44 for under $650 would be getting serious consideration. They've got a good reputation.

Commando will be at my FFL Friday. I plan to go up Monday; do a receipt inspection; and start the Form 4. With any luck, I'll have it in hand for Independence Day.

Those are both great choices. I’ve made many purchases from both.

This is my pride and joy. Marlin 30-30.

I use to ride around with my grandfather(and we went everywhere) and a Winchester 30-30 under the front seat everyday of my childhood and early adolescents. The Winchester ended up stolen on Christmas Day in 2009. My wife bought this for me on Christmas 2 or 3 years after my grandpa’s rifle was stolen. This is still without a doubt the best gift I have ever received(Christmas present).

If you’ve never made the ride to Anniston Alabama, I highly recommend doing so. The M1 Garand is a very special rifle.

I’m normally hard-pressed to recommend anything in the state of Alabama....
Unfortunate it’s not like the olden times of ten years ago. You could spit and hit a nice Garand every time. What we bought for rack and field grades would be service grade or auction guns now. I’ve not paid attention to the Filipino rifles as I’m stuffed to the gills but I would imagine some nice WWII originals in the pile. And I’m 17 thousand something in the 1911 lottery so that’s not happening anytime soon either.

This was a typical sight at the South Store. Things are a lot different now.

Yup. I pulled many correct WW2 rifles out of those racks for $500 a pop. Ole Leon used to stack the racks on the end of the really good stuff. Every good thing eventually comes to an end. At one point I had 16 M1’s in my safe. Now I’m down to a handful of really nice examples. C’est la vie.

This is a quality scope that punches way above its weight class.

6933 arrived yesterday. Went up and did the receipt inspection today. I am really going to like that rifle. It will look different, and weigh a bit more when completely outfitted, but that is one light, easy to maneuver CQB weapon. Worth every penny, and the wait.

Should have done this years ago.

New to this thread. The recruiting thread didn't take kindly to me straying from the subject. Just wanted to share my carry piece and our long-gun purchases.

👀 you definitely work for the cartel carrying around that shiny Bob Ross piece right there..holy nickel played....found you a new purchase though👀🤘🏽😂😂
