$400 for a used upper with no charging handle, guards or BCG?

Yeah, no

Nah, if I pull the plug...and I probably won't...it'll be for NIB. I've dealt with RatWorx, and they're top-shelf, so they get my business.

Or you could just sell me one of the dozen or so you've got buried in your backyard.

Just sayin'.....

I'd build you a lower. But I can't sell uppers that would violate NFA

Yeah, I was poking you.

But let me get your honest opinion here. Let's say I decide to pay the $200 and get a SBR. As I said, I would most likely go with the 6933, NIB, then add the trigger, red dot, charging handle, grips, sling, and light. So...all told I'm looking at roughly $2100 for a 11.5" version of my current 16" rifles. Oh, with the 1/7 twist. And...(drum roll)...it's a Colt.

Would you go a different route, and if so, why?

Scratch that! Apparently it has to be a department issued firearm. Just looked it up.

Honestly, you can Frankenrifle one together for far less unless you really, really really just have to have that Colt name. You don't want or need that match trigger on an SBR in my opinion. I'd honestly go with a ACT or QMS for that sorta deal. Save a hoop of money, get a nice trigger regardless. Now, I'd trust a 6933 out of the box, but...

There is some tuning that can be done. Buffer, spring, etc. I wouldn't dick around with the gas port or anything like that, but overall, a new spring and heavier buffer will help bigly. I'd piece together a lower myself and get what you want up front rather than replace it piecemeal.

Now as for the accouterments, a smart guy like yourself should learn to invest in, drum roll please, RAILS! That way you can move said light off one and to another. One of these days you'll learn the joys of either the Keymod or M-Lok system and it changes your life forever. And you don't get stuck paying triple figures for a light for each new rifle.

Okay. I've got time to mull it over.

I have one. It's NOICE

Bear in mind, I am not yet beyond the "window shopping" stage, but this is as good a place as any to solicit opinions on making the right choice. There's a chunk of money involved here (for me), and Upper Management has already politely asked how many guns I really need. History has proven that countering with "Well, how many purses do you really need?" in neither a good response, nor a wise one. Thus, both diplomacy and patience are in order here.

So I have two Colts. Both 6721's. One is set up for patrol, and one is set up for longer range. The second 6721 was a deliberate move to give me redundancy in the event that an AR ban found traction with the politicians. No point in just letting it sit there, so I put a scope on it and dialed it in with 69gr SMK's.

I don't need an SBR, so maybe the debate should end right there. But I kinda sorta maybe want one. Following that line, I would probably default to a 6933, just to keep everything "Colt". One question I do have is whether or not I could just buy the 6933 upper, and then register it under the S/N of my patrol AR. I can, and probably will ask one of the ATF folks I know down here, but if you know the answer, then send it.

If that's not an option, then it comes down to do I buy a complete 6933, or go in a different direction. Springfield is a solid choice. I already own a .45 Range Officer, so you need not try to sell me on Springfield quality. I'm already there. The Saint SBR looks like it comes with all of the internals I would have to add to the Colt, so slap on a sling, a light, and a red dot sight, and I'm good to go. Plus the IOP price, which I can get, is very attractive.

The 6933 upper and the complete Saint SBR run about the same cost. A complete 6933 adds a chunk to the total outlay, even before you figure in the add-ons. So if money is the determining factor, then the Saint wins out, unless I can just buy the 6933 upper. If I can, it's a coin flip, understanding that the Saint would give me a 3rd rifle, while the 6933 upper does not.

So...what to do? GV builds rifles, and I have no doubt that his recommendation(s) would serve me well, but for reasons beyond my comprehension, I'm just one of those "buy it professionally built and ready to fight, because your life may depend on it" types. Knowing me, I will most likely buy either the 6933 upper, or a complete rifle NIB. You'd have to see me change the blades on my mower to fully understand why that's probably the right move for me.

Speaking of which, I need to mow, and today we've got UGA-UF and UT-USCe. Gotta get moving. Thanks in advance for any help.

And Go Vols!

My wife is surprisingly on the gun train, within reason of course.

I'm in the same boat as far as 'professionally built' piece. Although I did do one complete build while I was in SC and it turned out fine.

I kinda want a Colt (or another AR).

I was at Thunder Ranch several years ago and Clint Smith was lecturing the class on appropriate self defense rifles. He had everyone that built their own rifle raise their hand and then he gave his prediction on how many malfunctions would occur during the class. By the end of the class, he was pretty close. LOL. Great parts don't always work great as a system. As Wolf mentioned, if your life depends on it, sometimes it's better to have a professional do it.

More nice weather today. Stretched the 18 inch AR out to 800 yards. Challenging but fun. JP barrels are incredible.

Open to the idea of purchasing a new SA pistol and I decided to try something new. I'd like recommendations from the group on what to purchase and I'll like for y'all to decide once I've narrowed it down. Please keep in mind that I have a budget here, Christmas is around the corner and I prefer not to get divorced...so with that said, please be serious (recommendations for les baer, nighthawk, WC or ed brown will not be taken into serious consideration unless someone here is willing to donate). FYI - not part of glock fan boy club either.

Budget of $1000 - 1500 max.

All pistols i own are on compact or subcompact frame. Although, I'm open to full size, just never owned or carried.

Try the Sig 1911 models if you're leaning towards a 1911 sized pistol. The XO would be my first choice in that price range.

Springfield Loaded Operator is probably worth considering in that price range.
