Officially they did but they resisted claims so severely that people gave up and bought something else. I gave up after 2 years.

Do this. Email their customer service about purchasing something from them and see how responsive they are.

Consider this..... if the warranty process was fair, would it have taken a class action lawsuit to get a settlement?

ETA.... BTW, this is the second problem EOTech has had the first EOTech I wasted money on had a battery part warranty issue. Lots of people got screwed in that one too.

They're well thought of by a lot of people. Has the military moved away from them or are they continuing to use them?

I don’t know if the military still uses them some or not. My nephew is in the Army and his issue is a Trijicon ACOG.

I rate my experience with optics in 3 categories when purchasing a new one.

1) Had a problem/ got bad customer service.
Don’t purchase again.
EOTech falls in this category.

2) Had a problem/ got good customer service.
Will purchase again but for limited applications.... target practice, plinking, etc.
Vortex and Primary Arms are the very best in this category from my personal experience.

3) Never had a problem ( or very infrequent/minor).
Purchase and recommend.
These scopes go on competition/hunting/self defense rifles.
It will work when you need it to work.
My personal top 3:
NightForce
Schmidt & Bender
Trijicon

This is not an all inclusive list. There are more good options in optics today than ever before. There’s no reason to settle for bad customer service.

To be fair, I know a couple of good shooters that swore them off that are considering some of their new offerings. I just don’t happen to be one of them.

Finally got around to pulling the trigger on my 45 1911. Settled on the Springfield TPS Model and found a SS that fit my eye on Gun Broker. Happy now.

Sad but they have been working on it for years. Their quality control has become terrible. You can get a 700 that is a tack driver or you can get one that couldn’t shoot a 2 MOA Group.

So, I'm "where I think I need to be" with regards to 5.56 ammo and mags. Don't ask.

Then the thought occurs to me...what happens if something breaks on my AR, and there's some sort of ban in place? Now what?

GV, this probably falls to you since you know the details. I have a circa 2008 Colt 6721. I love it. It works for me. But what if? Buy another 6721? They're out there. 6920? Get off the Colt bandwagon? I do like the normal/heavy barrel versions. No need for a step-cut. IMO, taking metal off the barrel for a grenade launcher you'll never have is a mistake.

So...should I buy another one as a fallback? All of the parts would be interchangeable. Or are there other manufacturers out there that will "parts swap" with my Colt? I have no idea, and I am cross-eyed from what research I have done on the 'net.

Fire away. If I make another big move, this will be it.

I think all my Remingtons are older than me and seem to function fine. Got a Target Master 22, Wood Master 30.06, and a humpback 12 from when they were producing under the Browning license. Guess the really don't make them like they used to.

Good thing about ARs is they parts swap readily between all manufacturers unless it's a piston system. Ergo, new upper will mate to an old lower with no problems.

As for the cut barrels, used to be that was about the only way you could get them. Most manufacturers are going to the government profile these days though. Colt just does it because...well, it's Colt and sometimes they don't make much sense.

Anyway, what is it you want it to do? What kind of bells and whistles do you want up front?

Ok, it looks like I spoke too soon. He's checking but he's thinking that he's reached his quota on Eotech. He has opportunities for other brands. I know he can get the Vortex line, and Trijicon. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure DTH was having passionate thoughts about the Trijicon MRO. He'll have to confirm though.

EDIT:

The Vortex SPARC 2 is pretty nice as well.

Just thinking out loud at this point. If I have a hole in my long-term home defense plan, this is probably it. What happens if there is an "AR ban" and mine breaks? What's the service life of a Colt barrel?

Same as when I was thinking about a shotgun, and you talked me out of it. Same thing.

If I bought another one, it would be as a spare, so no bells and whistles. Just something that would part swap with my current gun. Just seeking your opinion and maybe suggestions (e.g. - stay with Colt or not).

And now that you mention it, I did notice the wife leafing through my SGLI and work insurance documents the other evening. I'm sure it's just curiosity on her part, you know, in case something unfortunate were to happen...

If it’s a chrome lined barrel it’ll go a long long time. Unless you’ve got the tools to do a barrel swap/timing I would just get backup upper.

Right now, I'd suggest a spare upper. But then again, spare uppers somehow magically grow lower receivers just like lower receivers somehow grow into full rifles.

Barrel swap is pretty dang easy. If I were him though, I'd just build a crap.load of fully functioning ARs that one can swap pieces and parts back and forth.
