The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

I'll reply when I get home and look through my goody sites.

Right now, I'd suggest a spare upper. But then again, spare uppers somehow magically grow lower receivers just like lower receivers somehow grow into full rifles.

So, I found another Colt 6721 on Gunbroker.com. NIB. Same as mine, and the reserve is less than I can find one anywhere else, including used. Seller has a good (A+) rating.

I will not hold you liable for your opinion, nor will you be responsible for any accidental shootings that might occur at my domicile within 24-72 hours of Mrs. GW learning of the purchase, should one take place. Besides, odds are I won't survive to sue you.

You can get LG to review the Release of Liability, but it should hold up here.

Your opinion?

Just thinking out loud at this point. If I have a hole in my long-term home defense plan, this is probably it. What happens if there is an "AR ban" and mine breaks? What's the service life of a Colt barrel?

Same as when I was thinking about a shotgun, and you talked me out of it. Same thing.

If I bought another one, it would be as a spare, so no bells and whistles. Just something that would part swap with my current gun. Just seeking your opinion and maybe suggestions (e.g. - stay with Colt or not).

And now that you mention it, I did notice the wife leafing through my SGLI and work insurance documents the other evening. I'm sure it's just curiosity on her part, you know, in case something unfortunate were to happen...

:)
When it happens post here and I'll come pick up your ammo. Mini 14 will not die and even if it does I can probably make my own replacement parts with a file and a torch.

Got a buddy that wants me to assist him building an AR. He shots left handed. He would like to use as much ambidextrous parts as possible. What parts are available?

I forgot, she has my address. Unless you burned it and even then I might not be safe.

You can't go wrong with a Colt (true Colt, not a Colt Competition) regardless of the model. If you're happy with the 6721, it won't hurt to have a "backup."

Or...

You might consider getting some spare parts for your existing rifle as well. Spare BCG, action spring, charging handle, spare barrel (you can always get a gunsmith to fit it later) and a lower parts kit. Probably run you a couple of hundred bucks or so for spare "stuff."

OR!!!!!!!

There's always getting a spare upper with all kinds of bells and whistles you might want and toss your original upper into "backup" mode. Generally cheaper than a complete rifle (depending on what you get) but you can tailor it to what you would desire. I can make some recommendations depending on what you might like and NO! You aren't allowed to be bland and blah with the "yeah, mine's okay" nonsense. And it's cheaper, so the Mrs. Unit will be slightly happier. Not as happy, but maybe under the price of the hitman she sends to Oklahoma.

When I bought my Colt two Christmas’s ago I didn’t see an option for the non stepped barrel on the 6920

Plus you get to answer the question “Oh the notch? That’s for the grenade launcher.😁”

You're killing me here...let me work my way through your response.

First off, "Mrs. GW"...Diana, as you know...really doesn't care. She indulges my penchant for guns, ammo, flashlights, and Yuengling. In return, I never ask her how much she spends at Belk's. Detente', of the domestic variety. So we can kid about it, and should, but she really doesn't care. OTOH, she does come from Pittsburgh stock, and I've met some of her extended family with Italian last names who own concrete businesses up there, so...yeah, I burned your address. I owe you that.

My line of thinking is that if any type of AR ban comes to pass, it would be a good idea to have redundancy for anything that might fail on my rifle. Best answer: another my rifle. So we're at another 6721. Anything on "this" rifle can transfer to "that" rifle. Best, simplest solution.

That's where I am. One rifle, with one purpose (okay, maybe two). So what's the best way to protect that interest long-term? Honestly, I don't know, so I asked. I think just buying another 6721, and laying it up in a bag full of dessicant is probably the simplest solution. But I want your opinion. I'm never going to ascend to your level of gun building. I just want a rifle that I can win a fight with, and with the way the wind is blowing now, a level of redundancy. Another one of the same rifle seems...to me...like the best solution. The 6721 comes with a chrome-lined barrel and a full-auto BCG, so it's a solid gun.

Don't go buy a "Grand Vol Fathead" just yet, but you know how much I value your advice. And your wit. But if I told you $800 plus shipping for the 6721, is there a better way?

Oh...if a guy called "Fat Jimmy" shows up to check your phone lines, shoot him.

:eek:lol:

I'm pretty sure DTH was having passionate thoughts about the Trijicon MRO. He'll have to confirm though.

EDIT:

The Vortex SPARC 2 is pretty nice as well.

Yep, it’s good kit. MRO or the aimpoint micro h1 or t1 (get the t1 only if you have access to night vision) otherwise opt for the cheaper h1. The acog is hard to beat, but pricey. I’d grab a vortex and buy some ammo.

Anyone able to identify this trigger housing? I don't see any marks or numbers on it.

GW, ever considered a cheaper beater rifle for training while your Colt is the "go-to" duty rifle?

I tend to recommend quality for things your life will depend on, but blasting paper targets and Mountain Dew bottles doesn't have to be expensive.

Briefly, but then the old "train how you plan to fight, because you'll fight how you trained" mantra rears its' ugly head, so...

If I go the "2nd rifle route", it will most likely be another 6721 or equivalent. Just makes the most sense to me.

Had to put tires on the truck today, so it will have to wait anyway.

Thanks for the advice. Go Vols.

The A3 was a cheaper version of the 03. Most trigger guards were stamped. Although Springfield and Remington did produce a number of 03’s during WW2 that also had stampings.

Mine is a Remington from ‘44 I think (43 or 44 anyway) and I could swear it’s an A3 and it is milled.

I thought the Smith Coronas were stamped?

Just put a sparc II on my bushy last evening. The bushy I bought new for $300. Got a good optic and placed my Daniels defense VFG on the rail. Can’t wait to shoot this thing!!!!
