Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot with Push Buttons and up to 50K-Hour Battery Life MD-ADS
That's a good start...
Standard Glock "ball in a cup" sights? Yeah, my G30S has those. I'm okay with it; I figure my engagement range will be in "both eyes open territory".
Default answer: ask GV. Beyond that, find a Glock armorer near you. Here, we have a place called Telluric, and they have a Glock certified armorer on-site. If I ever decide to upgrade my sights, I'll let them tell me what I need.
Grand what's your thoughts on a piston gun vs a gas gun? I've never tinkered with a piston gun. My brother made a big deal out it with that lwrc.
Nooooooooooo! He's going to talk you into spending $75,000 on a 4.2 gigawatt laser plasma ion cannon with triple-reverse inverted flux capacitor sights and a 2 million candlepower FlashBurn night light with an integrated ICBM-killing laser and Doppler RADAR infrared target-discrimination software. You'll end up hocking your house, car, kids, cat, lawnmower, and beer fridge just to buy the ammo he talks you into.
Ask Luther. He's cheaper.

GV, where do you get your 5.56 ammo, and how often do you burn any up?
I'm looking for a regular source for practice and defense ammo.
Yeah, I think the Jehovah Witnesses have me on their "Do Not Disturb" list.....lol.

Urban legends about the uber-awesome piston AR systems. Long story short, some SOCOM units went to a piston H&K which lit a bonfire in the gun world about how awesome piston ARs were and the DI was now obsolete.
Well, come to find out, the M4 wasn't quite as bad as they thought (the Army tests were biased and the criteria was skewed), but not before all kinds of manufacturers started messing with a piston design. Some good, some, well, needed work. The problem was, not a darn one of them were "standard" nor compatible with each other. The closest to a "standard" would likely be the HK416 since it's gained more widespread acceptance than other designs except maybe the LWRCI systems.
As for the great "Piston vs DI" debate, I own both. I have an Adcor BEAR with a low serial number that's been reliable (it's really a unique system that offers some interesting features) along with having a bit of range time with an LWRCI and Sig 516. All have been pretty sturdy designs, but honestly, they do nothing my standards ARs won't do. People like to claim they are "cleaner" and "don't run as hot" as a DI AR. However, not entirely accurate. There is a saying about an AR, it sh!ts where it eats. Which is true since the gas comes right back into the BCG and drags carbon with it. Nothing oil won't overcome though.
A piston on the other hand doesn't do that. But it just deposits it's carbon in a different place. And as for heat, well, the piston area tends to get a little warm. So, it's generally a trade off. Both are going to get dirty, just dirty in different places.
My biggest gripe about piston systems, well, two of them, again is the proprietary parts and the price. Sorry, but LWRCI goes on a name and increases the price. Kind of like Larue or Knights in that regard, but they don't do anything special other than build a durable rifle. But not at the price they charge in my opinion. As for parts, if one of my DI carbines breaks something, I'm pretty much unlimited on getting a replacement part. If my Adcor breaks, I'm limited to Adcor to get a replacement part. Same with Sig, Adams Arms, H&K, Ruger, etc, etc, etc.
Having said all that to say this, if your brother is happy with his new toy, let him be happy. He'll want to talk about how wunderbar it is because it cost him so much and how much your ARs suck in comparison, but honestly, it's not going to do anything different than your own toys. You could have a five hundred round shoot off and both will be running in the end.
My common sense was telling me some of the same things you have said. It's physics, you didn't eliminate the heat or the dirt, you just moved it somewhere else.
Yea, I've already decided to just let him have his toy with no ribbing from me. I encouraged him not to buy it. Told home I could build 2 really nice ARs for what he's going to spend. But he wasn't going to have any of it. I guess if he wants nother caliber he'll have to invest another couple of ARs in a new upper for his lwrc.
Thanks for the response, as always. I've ordered the gen II Aero Precision 308 upper and lower so I'm sure I'll have some questions. From what I've read the AR10 has much more variance between manufacturers than the ar15.
I've honestly never had a problem with stock Glock sights, but it seems like I hear a lot of people complain about them. Maybe I shouldn't worry about it, but I am interested to hear the other side of it.
Anyone that carries IWB prefer one of these styles over the other? Also kydex or leather? I'm assuming a kydex holster would be more sweat resistant than leather.
