The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Thanks for that info. I am trying to help my better half transition to a more manageable caliber without feeling underpowered. I am kind of tall and lanky and can put a government model a lot of places on my body. I think I oversold her on the .45 acp cartridge.

Female perspective here... if she's comfortable with no external safety, rent the Ruger LC9s Pro and have her try it. It's sweet for a single stack and easy to conceal. It's my go to when I don't feel like layering on clothes to cover up the M&P 9c.

I'd shy away from the Kimber if I were you though. I don't trust mine as a carry piece since, again, it can be picky on which mags it wants to lock back on. Same mags work great in my Rock Islands, but the Kimber gives me a big "Eff You, I ain't doing that!" when I finish the mags.

It's relegated to my "using until I get the heavy stuff out" under the couch cushion pistol.

Looks sweet. Since this is not for me, I think we're going to have to test drive some stuff insofar as possible. She currently has a Colt Defender .45 ACP. She likes the size but not the recoil. I don't like it because my pinky finger hangs off in space and as long as I have a pinky finger I'd like to use it. Also, it's a bit of a pain to reassemble after breakdown and, since I am the person who usually does the cleaning, I'm trying to steer away from a 9mm Defender.

Actually owned by Cerebus Capital under the "Freedom Group" name and also owns Advanced Armament, Marlin, H & R, Dakota Arms, Para USA, Tapco and Barnes.

But Remington of today isn't what it was years ago. My response was tongue in cheek and I hope you enjoy your soda can plinker for the 600 rounds it will last before you ask me what's wrong with it and I remind you "well, Septic, you bought a DPMS."

FTR, I wouldn't buy a Colt these days either even if it is the "industry standard." Either I build it or buy BCM.

I would point at my finely crafted 1911 and turn my nose up at your blocky marvel of German engineering with the most horrid trigger ever made for mankind while reminding you 'Murica won WWII and German guns were the losers.

Laughing. You know your stuff, and humble about it you are not. I can respect that. BTW, good advice on my AR. I'm back behind the stock, and I absolutely love the PRO.

Funny that I have a RI compact 1911, and a Glock 30S. Love that big chunk of metal that will ring bells at 50yds all day long, and also fond of 10 rounds in about the same size and half the weight. The key to loving a Glock is an aftermarket drop-in single-stage trigger. Do it right, and you're sold on them.

You're a class act, GV. Thanks for the good advice, and always being a good read.

Go Vols!

Meh, I'm just yanking Septic's chain. Right now, the AR market is crazy with deals right and left. I can't blame anyone for getting a Bushy or DPMS for that price. The real scores at the moment is ammo and accessories. Mags deals come out practically every week from reputable manufacturers. If anyone is looking to take the AR plunge, now is the time.

I owned a USP45 at one point. Good pistol, but utterly horrible trigger like most of the H&K brand. The VP9 is probably the first pistol in recent memory that has a socially acceptable trigger.

Agreed on the USP. We carried them for about 5 years at the SO. Moved up from the S&W 9's, which most of us hated. Right after we transitioned to the .45, we had two OIS's. Both of them were DRT for the bad guy. The trigger pull on that first shot was horrible, so most went for a sort of "cocked & locked" setup. I never was comfortable with that on the USP. Still, good gun.

Now we're on the Glock 22. Personally, I think the 21 is easier to shoot. Not such a "snappy" recoil like the 22 has.

Like they say, I carry a .45 'cause I can't find a .46.

Keep Safe. Go Vols.

you mention, cleaning as a consideration...have her try a glock 43...it's a single stack 9mm, the glock 26, is the double stack version..

I just recently with in the last year, bought a couple of Glocks, and they shoot anything, and the breakdown, and cleaning, can't get any easier.

I would echo, GV's comments around the Kimber...I wouldn't buy another one...The Kimber is the most fickle of any .45 I own, and I've got Colt's, Kimber, and Sig

If Money wasn't an issue, I'd go with the Guncrafter Industries 9mm..but it still breaks down like any other 1911 frame.

Grand, or any of you guys that may know, is there an upper that can use a standard 556 lower with some kind of mag conversion to use 9mm?

Going to "pull the trigger" on a Walther Creed 9mm this weekend. It'll be my first ever firearm purchase.

Carry a 9mm S&W Shield but I just don’t like it. I have only put 50-100 rounds through it. Just ergonomically not my gun. I have a Glock 17 and 19 plus a 9mm glock Mag lower for another AR build. I do not have a Glock 26 or smaller though. I have a lot of Glock/glock type Mags and extended mags in 9mm.

My wife carries a Springfield XD9 compact. She got because of the backstrap safety and we have younger kids. It feels alright/fine.

My H&K VP 9 is the best “feeling” pistol I have shot but the Gen 4 glock beaver tails help a lot. Those VP9 sights though are just Heaven to my cross eye dominant open eye shooting.

So going to trade my Shield. Should I get:

1. VP 9 SK

2. Compact Glock 9 (Glock 26 or 43) because I am “okay” with the grip and can put up with sights but have tons of Glock mags and interchangeablility (I am a semi SHTF or TEOTWAWKI kind of guy)

3. Springfield XD9 c like my wife so if we are together and only one of us has our gun (happens a lot) we both know how to shoot it well.

Side note, she hates a Glock feel in her hand. I tried to go that way with both of us originally and she would have none of it. She does love the full size VP9 and calls it “hers” anyways

Picked up a High Point JHP .45 ACP at Academy. It’s ugly and heavy, but all the reviews on it are favorable and for less than $200 it comes with a transferable lifetime warranty.
