The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Thanks. I think I'm going to be an absolute co-witness. When I dialed in last time, I simply flipped up the rear Magpul BUS, and I was pretty much right there.

Problem is, I made the mistake of moving the PRO forward, and then back to where it was, and so now I need to
re-zero. Which is okay, because I need to zero for the 62gr JSP, and then shoot the other loads to see where they land.

It won't be scientific by any method, but what I will do is measure and post my results for those who might have similar interests. Bearing in mind that I'm shooting....ugh...a Colt.

Very good article, GV. Thanks.

Try to bag your rifle while doing it.

GV ( or anyone else) do you have any general thoughts on Stag Arms rifles?

Generally pretty well built rifles. A lot of their parts are made by Continental Machine and Tool (CMT) which makes parts for a wide variety of AR manufacturers in varying grades.

Stag is good to go. No major issues with the rifles themselves. The owners on the other hand...

Guys, I'm looking for a black fully semi-automatic machine rifle with grenade launcher attachment, silencer, and 487 *bullet clip, can you direct me?

EDIT: Updated with the correct terminology to show off my superior knowledge.

So the "window of opportunity" ended up being a cat door. Didn't get to go. But the plan remains intact, and I will get it done this week, and post the results.

Advantage: I have a friend with a bench rest, so I'll borrow it for the Redneck Ammo Comparison. Temperatures and winds moderate and light this week, so I should get decent results.

GV, would you spend a couple of lines talking me out of sending the SA 1911 back to Springfield Custom for combat sights?

Don't ask...it's not cheap.

What kind of "combat sights" are you looking at?

And why not purchase them from Brownells or Midway and have a local gunsmith fit them?

I did some looking at 1911’s over the weekend and I may be changing from Colt Government to Springfield Armory Mil-Spec Series in stainless. Will probably add some real walnut grips. Somebody tell me what I’m doing wrong with this please?

Needs ivory handled grips.

Good advice. Taken. We have a Telluric facility locally. Once my Rock gets back (if ever) from Armscor, I'll see how I like the Trijicons. Once I have that data point, I'll reach back out to you for your opinion.

Trijis are great. But honestly, Meprolight are pretty dang good for the money as well.

If I sent it to you, could you install the sights and "Hello Kitty" handgrips?

:)

I don't mess around with 1911s that much. Other than the grips and whatnot. They are an extremely intolerant pistol to just any Bubba dicking around with the internals. There's a reason there are dozens of 1911 smiths, but only a few that folks will stake their reputation on.

The nice(er) thing about wood pistol grips is there is a larger variety of woods available since you aren't dealing with a big honking blank like you would with a rifle stock.

For a stainless, I'd almost prefer a Walnut since the darker tones would contrast really nicely with the pistol itself. Burl patterns are the prettiest (in my opinion).

I found that exact sight while I was looking around earlier. And yeah a nice set of rosewood or walnut grips are the shiz on a SS I think. I like the cocobolo pattern that comes in the SS springfield I just wanted real wood grips is all.

So what’s the deal with the curve up beaver tail grip safety on the non government models? Is it more functional somehow? I’ve always liked the simple clean look of the government with the turned down grip safety.

Allows you to shoot with a higher grip, mitigating muzzle rise slightly, also prevents hammer bite.

It helps with hammer bite? Thumb won’t lay in there if you fire two handed?

I probably can’t find the scar any more but the first time I shot my brothers 1911 government I was forever taught about hammer bite. And the ******* watched my grip and let me shoot it. But I never did it again.
