The Official 2025 March Madness Discussion Thread

Maryland is a very good team and probably the best 4 seed in the tournament, but Florida is elite when they aren’t killing themselves with turnovers, just ask Alabama who Florida handled easily twice this season. Also all the distractions with their coach probably isn’t helping.

Just like with Alabama, it’s easy to say “they just shot lights out! That’s why they won!” (Although bama did play a defense that is atrocious in many ways). At some point, you just gotta fess up and say that the reason they shot lights out is because they’re an awesome team and run excellent offense with some really good players. Golden may or may not be a creep (maybe time will tell), but the guy can coach basketball and has a great team.

I’ll stop short of saying a fix is in, but I’m sure a lot of folks are hoping for that. For someone who isn’t really behind a single team and is just watching for the love of the game (probably quite of a few folks like that out there), that would be quite the storyline.

With that being said, I think Tech sends the Hogs home.
They are on opposite sides of the bracket.
The "fix" for them to end up playing each other again would have to be at a level that I'm not sure any serious person would consider.

It was lined up for a silver platter for Maryland and then they get embarrassed the second half. **** them. Can’t believe both these bum teams are going to the elite 8. Good grief

Bama has also had a comically easy path, wouldn’t be surprised if Zona upset Duke 💀 only reason they made a final 4 last year is because of the path and luck. They’re a way better team this year though but still an easy path.

BYU was ranked #247 in opposition 3s this year. They’re awful defensively

They’re not great defensively, but they’re a very good team who has been playing like a Top 4 KenPom team for the past 4-6 weeks. I don’t have a paid sub or I’d get the exact date, but it was on a podcast I listened to today that they have been the 4th best team in KenPom for at least the past month. Alabama just did what only Alabama can do.

Florida is 33-4, won the SEC Tournament and would have won the SEC regular season without that weird Georgia game that they nearly came back and won after being down 26, lol. 6-2 against all other SEC teams still in the tournament as well. It might be time to admit they’re just really good. Lol.

Please enlighten us as to what BYU has ever done in basketball....And tell us about their great basketball tradition. I guess BYU is a Blueblood and I missed the memo.

I think he’s horribly wrong in his assessment that BYU is better than Kentucky. That’s a very emotional assessment imo as Kentucky beats BYU more times than not. However, to his point, what does it matter what BYU’s program has historically done? We’re talking about 2025. What effect does it have on this tournament what a program has done historically? The answer: no effect at all. If BYU’s program was 0-10,000 prior to this season, it would have no effect at all on this post season. They’re a good team. Not great. Definitely not good enough to hang without Bama for 40 minutes.

I think Bama's night is a bad omen. Law of averages may be there in the next game regardless of how good or bad the next defense is they play

I said as much about Bama’s path in a previous post. It was easy, at least as easy as it gets this time of the season. Robert Morris was a pushover (even though Bama struggled in that one). St. Mary’s can’t hit the broad side of barn outside of 15 feet. BYU defends the three point line as poorly as any team in the country. Both matchups made in Heaven for Bama. They had a clear path to the E8. To their credit, they’ve taken advantage of it.

Bama has been pretty fortunate to get good match ups in the NCAA Tournament 2 years in a row now.

Not a lick of defense by BYU.

I think they like to push tempo and they’re not able to out Bama Bama . This was an atrocious matchup for them .

It’s easy to say in hindsight that BYU isn’t any good because they lost by to Alabama by 25 just now, but this is the same Alabama team that just beat Kentucky by 29 2 weeks ago. I’m just saying that BYU has been playing like one of the best teams in the country before tonight and the stats prove it. I just found the stat, and since February 1st BYU has been the 4th best team on KenPom.

Alabama is mediocre against any team that plays a semblance of defense that can also score right there with them. See both Florida games this season. I suspect if Duke wins tonight they win rather comfortably against them.
