The Official #1 Tennessee @ #5 Kentucky Game Thread, 8:00 PM ET, ESPN

A lot of things hurt us tonight.
1. We did not come out with good energy. (You can’t win a fight if you don’t throw punches.)
2. Turner, Bowden, and Alexander. ( You can’t have guys averaging over 35 points come out and give you 11).
3. Barnes made some bad subs. (Barnes should not have brought Pons in when we were making a run, Kentucky had already shown they weren’t going to guard him.)
4. Barnes shouldn’t have went away from press and zone so quickly.
5. Allowing PJ Washington to continue to shoot that right hook shot.
6. It was obvious the refs were one sided at the start. However, that is expected anytime you go there.

#3 was what got me. they were making a run and then went to man.

Maybe number 4 is something we can use more often when we play them again. I wish he'd stayed with it..

Go Vols fellas... we'll be just fine, and I'm confident that this was just what we needed to realign our focus and not take anything for "Grant"ed.

Bilas is bias toward Duke. If you don’t believe that then I am concerned for you. I am not critizing him. Most announcers are biased toward their team. I guarantee you Bilas wanted KY to win.
Agree with both comments... the thing that sort of bugged me was I don't recall them giving any credit for playing tough and getting the UK lead halved... yes, a few turnovers cost us dearly... but I liked the fight with 10 mins left.

Oh... and BTW, I'd hate to be Vandy next Tuesday!

You left out Kentucky played on Tuesday and Tennessee on Wednesday another day of rest goes along way in a game like this. That's why the shots and hops weren't as good.

We were missing so many open shots, whether they were 2's or 3's. We turned the ball over far too many times. You can't do that against Kentucky. It's like the Vols turning the ball over to Bama on the football field. You can't do that. The no calls by the refs were egregious but that's not what lost us the game.

There’s kind of a pattern developing. We have a terrible game, then kind of get things back together in the next game before going of a 5 game tear, then a slight let down before another terrible game and then a 5 game tear. Fortunately up to this point the let down has been against bad competition. The first was Samford. Weren’t great. Then rebounded against wake forest before going on our early SEC tear. Didn’t play well at Alabama and then looked horrible at Vandy. Bounced back a little against WVU, then went on another 5 game tear before this awful showing at UK. If the pattern repeats itself, well play a little better against Vandy at home and then tear through the last 5 games. Let’s hope

Refs were bad
This team needed a lose at it showed
Last several games they have been bad on defense and getting killing on defensive boards. They have been playing poorly for a while now especially on D but none of those teams could do anything about it. This tough schedule down the stretch will either make them hungry again or it will break them. My guess and hope is this game lights the fire back up.

3 days vs 4 days isn't a huge factor. These kids grew up playing every day. They play tournaments where they might even go back to back in a day. After a couple days, the difference in rest is negligible.

Not a very fun night. Among several things, we just didn’t match UK’s intensity for long periods of time.

Several games left, excited to see how we bounce back.
