The Official #1 Tennessee @ #5 Kentucky Game Thread, 8:00 PM ET, ESPN

21 fouls on Tennessee.

7 on Kentucky.

But hey, let’s just accept it and not worry about it huh.

I can accept losing but this was no where near close to being a fairly officiated game.
Fouls 25-15 KY. FT 33-18 KY
That is a big hole to scratch out of.
I knew we were going to get jobbed.

We’ll return the favor in Knoxville

Boohoo. The officials had nothing to do with UK shutting down our offense and diving our defense.
I guess the refs held us to 69 points. KY played their defensive game of the season. Hurts but we'll survive. I guess. Had to take a clonidine to finish watching this one.

Is it fatigue or is it simply that UT has been coasting against lackluster competition? They faced step up in competition tonight and simply weren't up for it. This team needs to find that spark and return to the intense defense we saw earlier this year. I really think they got a bit full of themselves during this run as #1. Maybe this whipping will open some eyes and ears for Barnes.
I have said this several times and I also have said they played better at #3 than they did at #1. You knew a loss was coming and the only thing that matters is what they will do about it from here on out.

Rematch @ TBA. We should start out with a bullet pass straight to Cal at the UK bench

RIght now I'd argue this isn't the same team that beat Gonzaga earlier this year. The faces are the same, but they aren't playing at the same level....and haven't for a while now.
The playing level is debatable, but the facts on the team won/loss record aren't subjective to such speculation.

Would love to hear from someone who knows more than I, why we didn’t play more zone.
I played a lot of Bbal but don't claim to be Rick Barnes? However, I thought for sure we would come out and play zone to start the second half. IMO we should have gone to zone with about 10 minutes left in the first half

Yeah, I want to forget this one. Just hoping the boys in orange use it as a lesson.

We looked like a tired team. Getting everyone's absolute best game for a month has to wear you down. And we have never experienced that level of sustained success before. We'll regroup and get hungry again. Might lose another one or two. But that's not a bad thing. Just my 2 cents.

They looked like a team that hasn't played real competition since before the SEC schedule began. I really wish they had played Kentucky about 3 weeks ago. The loss would have hurt worse and given UT time to recover. But Monday morning the senators will begin stabbing Caesar. This was the loss all the Tennessee haters were waiting for.

Can't win when Turner and Bowden are non factors and don't make shots. I think the ref's were a factor too. Allowed Kentucky to get away hacking but called everything in the Vols.

Well, not sure who the team in orange was, but it didn't resemble the team I love and have watched all year. I knew it would be a tough game and all that, but where were our guys at? I can't understand the lack of effort and aggressiveness. Just the worst possible scenario. Of course the refs didn't help at all, but I honestly don't think it would have made any difference in the game. I love my Vols so on to Vandy.

Well I would rather have a loss like this now instead of during the SEC or NCAA tourney just sucks to lose that #1 by our name. I would hate to be Vandy Tuesday night.

Love this team as much as ever. Plenty of season left!

You are absolutely right. We have a very good team but there are other good teams in the sec. I think we will lose maybe two more games on the road this year. I think we have the potential to go deep into the ncaa tournament with a chance to win it all, but most of the time it takes some breaks for any team to win it all. Ut, Ky, Duke, Virginia any of these teams in my opinion could win it all. Just depends on which team gets the breaks in a game.

I keep seeing all this weak schedule stuff but who has Ky played besides Duke and Kansas that makes their schedule so much tougher

I agree with you and I think that’s relatively normal. It is hard to keep that same level the whole year. Beginning of the season you get those out of conference big games and then you settle in during conference and I think the level decreases especially with the schedule we have had. It’s why basketball is so hard to go undefeated. Obviously I was hoping this would be the game to get them back to the high level but now they know what it’s like to get manhandled. And now it’s time to turn it into full gear for the stretch run.
