Posted this in the Ament commitment thread, but I'll repost here, provides a very interesting backstory on the family

Some rumblings we may be losing Rod Clark to IU
Really? What would be the reason for such a move? Seems like a lateral move, at best. This seemingly gets him no closer to a HC gig unless he believes that hiring ADs in the future value coaching tree variety (though I'd think they value loyalty more).

Wonder if he feels maxed out here for one reason or another.

My take.

A lot of this is conjecture FWIW.

Rod seems to be the lead recruiter and player relationship guy on the staff.

Rod was very close with DK and Chaz Lanier for instance, and pivotal in recruiting them. Was he pivotal in identifying them and evaluating them? That I don't know.

Regardless, those things likely have led for Rod to be pretty in demand right now.

The staff roles here are firmly set. Gainey is solidified as the lead assistant and de-facto defensive coordinator. Greg I imagine is seen as the offensive coordinator along with Rick.

If Rod wants to move up in the ranks, it doesn't seem like that opportunity exists here. So if he wants a bigger role, he probably does have to go somewhere else.

Makes sense if he is joining on to be the lead assistant, I guess. Or perhaps he gets a feeling that Barnes has one more year and then he (Clark) may be looking for a job, anyway.

Coach Rod is a great players coach. Amazing recruiter.

This is valid reasoning too. He is young. Wouldn’t have the giant network of older coaches. A bird in the hand etc..
