As some of you may know, I'm not religious but I do love the teachings of Jesus. This may be the most Christlike thing I've ever seen and the kid has me in near tears. His brother was wrongly killed by this cop. She was convicted of murder and this is his message to her.

That's beautiful. I can't begin to imagine being in that situation and responding with such grace. Seeing the best of humanity in the face of tragedy makes so many other things seem insignificant and petty. I truly wish we as a society had more of what this young man exhibits. Myself included.

Boy, after reading her texts they presented in court, even more impressive how this young man handled it.

It is impressive but it's also smart. If he can truly put this away now, he's saving himself years of inner torture and hate that will accomplish nothing positive but put a dark cloud over his whole life.

I hope I never have to make that choice, I honestly don't know if I could manage to do the same.

I remember when this first happened but I haven't followed the trial. At first there was all kinds of rumors/theories that were floating around. Did they ever determine what happened? Was it just a stupid accident where she literally thought she entered her own apartment when it was actually someone else's apartment and she thought he was an intruder?

I get what he’s trying to say but I can’t agree that she shouldn’t be in jail.

Yeah, they stuck with the theory that she mistook his place for hers. The prosecution used pictures of the apartments in relation to where the dustup happened and the story I heard was it completely shattered their defense.

If it was intentional, did the prosecution theorize a motive?

Was this lady intoxicated/high? I know it's not a defense. I've read about situations where someone was wasted and went in the wrong house and it results in a bad situation.

I think I read one time they thought it might be a lover's scorn. Did they ever dismiss that?

Nit sure if that was involved. Another theory if it was a mistake, it's because she was (1) run ragged at work, (2) was distracted by texting, and (3) can't process vital and simple information under stress in a reasonable time

Wow - what an amazing display of humility, love and forgiveness. Such a great testimony of Christ's presence in this man's life.

Doesn't have to be a motive to convict, but it certainly can help.

I know the general story but don't claim to know the specific evidence. Hard for me to truly provide an opinion. But murder requires a mens rea, that is, a state of mind. Premeditation is required for first degree murder. Intentionally trying to kill is required for second degree murder. I don't know the laws in Texas, but based on the sentence, I assume this was less than first degree murder.

Generally, I thought it was questionable as to if she actually had the intent to kill and was merely just negligent in her actions. But again, I didn't review all of the evidence.

Sad situation all the way around. The display of grace was incredible. The judge is also getting some criticism for her hug and words. I have never seen that before, but I don't see it as a huge deal.
