NOT... off that... Everyone pull your stuff together and realize the situation we are in. As much as i would love to bash fulmer and the staff and say we need a change (which would be a good idea) im still not ready to say it was the coaching staff's fault. Really, it's no one's fault for us being dissappointed except for ourselves for expecting so much from these new guys so early.
Think back to last season. We lost 2 of our first 3 games because our offense was ahead of our defense by a long shot. We had no chance of winning those games because we couldnt tackle, we couldnt get off blocks and most importantly, we couldnt stop anyone from scoring. Fast forward to last night. We were tackling, we were getting pressure on the qb and we basically for the most part stopped them from scoring.
Why did we lose? Obviously because this time around we couldnt score any points. It would be easy to assume Arian Foster cost us the game with the fumble inside the 10 yard line, but that's football, any true FOOTBALL fan realizes that it happens and the great teams make up for it. But the only thing that kept us from winning last night was execution. the playcalling wasnt the best, but from the plays that were called they still werent executed as they should have been. Crompton made several horrible throws that put us in 3 and out situations and forced our D to go out after about 3 minutes of rest.
But here's the good news. It's a proven fact that offenses come around quicker and easier than defenses. Our defense is here. Our offense has a ways to go but a matcup against UAB is definitely what we need to get Crompton ready for SEC play. Believe it or not, the quarterback position is the easiest position on the field to make adjustments and get better at. I wont judge Clawson or Crompton on that performance last night because, for both of them, it was the first time either of them have been in that type of environment and it was in fact the first game of the season and the first time Crompton had some contact. Just watch and see how Crompton comes around these next few weeks. You'll be as surprised to see how much different and improved he looks from week 1 to weeks 3 and 4 as the UCLA fans were of Kevin Craft last night. This is just another reason for the nation to put us under the radar and to surprise them even more
