NOT... off that... Everyone pull your stuff together and realize the situation we are in. As much as i would love to bash fulmer and the staff and say we need a change (which would be a good idea) im still not ready to say it was the coaching staff's fault. Really, it's no one's fault for us being dissappointed except for ourselves for expecting so much from these new guys so early.

Think back to last season. We lost 2 of our first 3 games because our offense was ahead of our defense by a long shot. We had no chance of winning those games because we couldnt tackle, we couldnt get off blocks and most importantly, we couldnt stop anyone from scoring. Fast forward to last night. We were tackling, we were getting pressure on the qb and we basically for the most part stopped them from scoring.

Why did we lose? Obviously because this time around we couldnt score any points. It would be easy to assume Arian Foster cost us the game with the fumble inside the 10 yard line, but that's football, any true FOOTBALL fan realizes that it happens and the great teams make up for it. But the only thing that kept us from winning last night was execution. the playcalling wasnt the best, but from the plays that were called they still werent executed as they should have been. Crompton made several horrible throws that put us in 3 and out situations and forced our D to go out after about 3 minutes of rest.

But here's the good news. It's a proven fact that offenses come around quicker and easier than defenses. Our defense is here. Our offense has a ways to go but a matcup against UAB is definitely what we need to get Crompton ready for SEC play. Believe it or not, the quarterback position is the easiest position on the field to make adjustments and get better at. I wont judge Clawson or Crompton on that performance last night because, for both of them, it was the first time either of them have been in that type of environment and it was in fact the first game of the season and the first time Crompton had some contact. Just watch and see how Crompton comes around these next few weeks. You'll be as surprised to see how much different and improved he looks from week 1 to weeks 3 and 4 as the UCLA fans were of Kevin Craft last night. This is just another reason for the nation to put us under the radar and to surprise them even more

any argument for lowered expectations is just weak and borderline idiotic.

popcorn, for the sake of argument UCLA seemed to be able to move the ball when they had to and most of the SEC offenses the Vols will face this year are better and deeper than what UCLA offered. I questioned the front 7 before the season because I heard alot of football savy people say it would be a problem. I'm still nowhere near sold on the defense.

If we shouldn't expect to win this game, we shouldn't expect to finish about 5th in the SEC East or attend a bowl game.

we got outsmarted. We should have won on talant alone. Emphasis on SHOULD HAVE. no need to pass the ball 8734289572938479286434952894375283674 times and only complete like 18 of them when we have the tandem duo of foster and hardesty in the backfield.

I didnt expect to lose but no one should be completely surprised that we lost this game. Im not saying that im happy that we lost or that we had a good chance of losing this game, but i believe we hit a 5 percenter, but thats football

They only moved the ball in the 2nd half because our defense was on the field most of the time and they were tired. Our defense is solid no matter what anyone says but the offense has got to help them out and there is no reason for the offense to not come around by the UF game. If they don't then throw this in my face but i still believe that we are solid enough on defense and that our offense will come around enough to be competitive for the east title

I just dont understand with what some have labeled the best secondary in the country, why are we playing off 5-7 yards constantly, even when the offense continues to hit us with that short pass time after time.

I challenge you to name a first year quarterback in the country, outside of Los Angeles, that could have taken their team to the Rose Bowl and dominated...

Crompton is a redshirt Junior, not some wide-eyed freshman. With the options surrounding him, he should have gotten the job done. Craft did.

Back in May or June, I indicated to a couple of you that I would be back today with the same comment. We will loose the game at UCLA for one reason and one reason only. We have a head coach that won one National Championship because of luck, and he continues to under achieve with quality caliber players. He does not know the first thing about motivating players, thus we end up here again with no shot at another national championship. I went to UT, but have stopped contributing 5 years ago until Fulmer is gone. The longer you guys avoind the issue, the longer you will be in misery. Will someone please tell Jim Haslem that enough is enough and be done with him. After seeing that crap last night, I now alter my prediction of a 6 and 6 record this year. If 6 wins gets you to a bowl this year, 6 and 7.

And yes, I will be back at the end of the year as before.

1. FIRST YEAR doesnt neccessarily mean WIDE-EYED FRESHMAN, Crompton still doesnt have any experience leading a team on this level.

2. Kevin Craft was the home quarter back in Los Angeles

i agree, if our secondary is so good, they chavis should let our corners play tight man. we have two safeties to back up. make the 3rd string QB throw an accurate pass.
it was the bama all over again. luckily we only played loose the 2nd half or else we would have been killed.

You are right, CPF will get us nowhere, but at this point the players have to realize that they need to take it upon themselves and just go out there and play ball. Fulmer cant control a ball being thrown at a receiver's ankles

Tee Martin could have done it in 1998.

Tee Martin couldn't complete anything the first half of 1998. He handed off and threw a couple of nice passes. Most of his passes during the first half of 1998 went incomplete. People forget how shaky he looked throwing the ball the first half of the season.

Thank you. And those problems got worked out just as CPF said they would

Frankly, I think you could have inserted the second string quarterback (assuming that qb had been given the same number of reps that Crompton received) on a number of top twenty teams and they would have dominated UCLA. Fellows, UCLA is not very good at all. Given their performance in the first half, I would dare say most any team in the top twenty-five would have applied a resounding coupe de grace the second half.

I think you need to link the article.

Also though, CFN has been waiting for a while to disprove the SEC good/speed idea...they tried to all last year (especially after Cal and Wisconsin). It's not so much that they dont think the conference is good, they just dislike the idea that the media's treating every player on an SEC team as if they're automatically faster than any player on any other team on any other conference...really it does sound kinda middle school like to say that now that i think about it.

They often acknowledge that the SEC is a better conference in past work, but they really want people to stop saying that it's cause they're faster
