The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

The fact you think that way is part of the problem in America and a large part of society as a whole, especially the south. They did something bad, so they must be evil, so we should throw them in a cage (because that is going to help in 15 to 20 years when they get out of prison) without trying to figure out why or how we went wrong as a society raising them.

If half of the things these boys did are true (and seeing they were found guilty, its safe to say they are) then you have to ask where it came from. Where they abused as children? How about the kid who had no father growing up, how big of an impact was that? Studies show no father makes you exceedingly more likely to commit crimes as you get older, and studies show victims of sexual abuse are more likely to commit sexual crimes.

Telling them we hope they rot in prison or how they failed doesn't make the world a better place. Hell, putting them in prison doesn't make the world a better place because their deeds are already done and will never be undone. It's a punishment to them, not a protection to the outside world, because the fact they weren't able to be identified as people who could commit these crimes beforehand is the protection we pretend putting them in prison affords. What these boys need is years of therapy on top of this prison sentence to try and figure out the real meaning behind it, and then we use that information to try and target people in the real world with the same symptoms and signs to make sure it never happens again.

What a load of sh&%. I don't care if your parents were separated and you grew up without a father figure, you still know that raping someone is not only wrong but sickening. Go read the text messages they released telling each other not to talk about what happened, or to tell the roommate "he didn't see nothing ", or in reference to the cell video to "delete that shi%".

These pieces of sh&* knew what they did. People wanting to make excuses and blame culture, lack of a father, etc. Are the problem. I support the harshest penalty, never let them see life outside of prison again. They are scum.

I have imbibed, therefore I am not guilty. What a load of hogwash. Boy's should have been toking, took the mellow road and probably would not have caused such a travesty.

I feel they should be put away for a looooog time. Same rule must go for drunk driver that kill someone. If we let a drunk driver off with slap on wrist, how can we justify putting them away. That, O he was to drunk to know better, should of gone away a long time ago.

Vandy throwing out desperation offers now just like last yr. Just offered a 2 star Yale DT commit. Offering 2 star Tulsa and FIU RB commits bc they missed on all their targets there too. They cannot find a DL or a decent RB. Lol. That roster keeps getting worse.

I don't like Vanderbilt sports, but can take no joy in the rape case or verdict. It was a despicable act, that could have been on any US campus. Sadly, if not for the video and pictures nothing probably would have happened to these players.

Before we get on our high horse--remember we have had some recent alleged rape cases at UT as well. Also, remember the victim and not judge her actions--put a female in your life, in her place if you have to and hopefully you won't judge her so varshly or try and slide blame to her.

To make excuses for Vandenburg or Batey is ridiculous. Vandenburg is a rich prick, who thought he was above the law and was going to be found innocent because of entitlement? Watch his reaction to the verdict after Batey already was found guilty--what did he think was going to be the verdict. . .

Batey, went to Ensworth (a very affluent private school in Nashville). How is this not a hate crime as well? What does this kid know of slavery? Hopefully, the video will not leak out (surprised it hasn't) because their actions are beyond barbaric.

I feel they will get what they deserve and hopefully the other two will as well. But I don't look at Vanderbilt any differently, because sadly if it can happen there, it really can happen anywhere.

"It's a lot of bull**** is what it is. They just oversign and cut kids like they aren't real people. They are all just numbers to them. It doesn't matter if it's a week til signing day or you've been on campus 6 months. If they find someone else, you are gone. I don't see how anyone can root for such a **** program and coach with absolutely no morals."
