I think he meant they've lost out on the last 6 recruits they were in on. Not positive though. I just assume that's what he meant because there are a bunch of threads on vandy's forum from the past day or two of players that committed elsewhere :)

No sure what the question is? I'm also not sure what the answer is. I thought Dave clarified the 6 in a row comment but I'm still not sure. He said UGA men's basketball, which I thought he meant UGA has beaten Vandy 6 times in a row. But Vandy beat Georgia just last year in basketball so I don't know.

If your questions is in response to what I said, I had guessed 6 in a row was in reference to all of the recruits Vanderbilt had a shot at it committing to other schools the past couple of days. Players they thought they had a 50/50 shot with are all committing elsewhere :)

We can talk smack about VU all we want, but at the very least they didn't take the FSU/TPD way and try and sweep it under the rug or delay it eternally. These boys did something heinous and are going to be punished fairly by the system.

But let's remember one thing as well, these are still boys. Being eighteen (or even 30, having a kid, etc.) doesn't make you a man, and for them to have done the things they did I would question their upbringing or mental faculties in every aspect. Someone failed them on the way growing up, and its something we need to find as a people and fix.

The fact you think that way is part of the problem in America and a large part of society as a whole, especially the south. They did something bad, so they must be evil, so we should throw them in a cage (because that is going to help in 15 to 20 years when they get out of prison) without trying to figure out why or how we went wrong as a society raising them.

If half of the things these boys did are true (and seeing they were found guilty, its safe to say they are) then you have to ask where it came from. Where they abused as children? How about the kid who had no father growing up, how big of an impact was that? Studies show no father makes you exceedingly more likely to commit crimes as you get older, and studies show victims of sexual abuse are more likely to commit sexual crimes.

Telling them we hope they rot in prison or how they failed doesn't make the world a better place. Hell, putting them in prison doesn't make the world a better place because their deeds are already done and will never be undone. It's a punishment to them, not a protection to the outside world, because the fact they weren't able to be identified as people who could commit these crimes beforehand is the protection we pretend putting them in prison affords. What these boys need is years of therapy on top of this prison sentence to try and figure out the real meaning behind it, and then we use that information to try and target people in the real world with the same symptoms and signs to make sure it never happens again.

I say punishment for the people who commit violent crimes should be the first priority. I don't buy into that reforming people shyatt.

The thing you just wrote is the reason that things like this happen.

It should be the fear of our consequences that make people afraid to do what these young men did.

They don't need therapy they need fear of prison and apparently the current culture doesn't make people fear it.

What happened to accountability in this world? When did "I severely ****ed up, therefore my parents are at fault" become the norm?

I've done countless hours of research on this topic and, if memory serves, you have as well or you work in the field...

Its a difference in philosophy of punishment, not an ethical or ecological problem. Perhaps their respective backgrounds did them no favors but, regardless of their history, they still did what they did on their own volition, no one pointed a gun to their heads and said "rape her."

These MEN irreparably scarred a young woman. I have no sympathy for them at all and would support them receiving the most severe punishment legally permitted.

Men that evil cannot easily be rehabilitated. However, they should be isolated from the decent people in society. Put them in prison for a long, long time. They earned it.

Based on the evidence, Vandenburg strikes me as a sociopath. Not sure a different upbringing would have changed much for him.
