The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

I liked how they said Mason can evaluate talent really well. Obviously not. Both of his recruiting classes have been terrible. Heck, that man can't even evaluate offensive/defensive coordinators.

Can't say I agree with that.

My, my wife's, and 2 good friends' experiences have been the exact opposite over the last 2 or 3 years.

For all of us, HR people pretty much seemed to verify its legit, then check a box for a degree. Work experience and references proved to be much more valuable.

Best man from my wedding hires for a lot of leadership positions at a large cellular provider. He said what school a degree is from isn't in the first 6 or 7 things he considers.
Been there, hired them. You are exactly correct. For recent graduates work experience in field of study during undergraduate time is a plus.

well if they would actually sell more than 100 tickets to their games, they might have gotten a better bowl.

This is their problem and they're either too dumb or too arrogant to admit it. When there was the "mid-state Classic" basketball tournament 4-5 years ago that featured UT vs MTSU and Vandy vs WKU they literally brought 300-500 people to Bridgestone while WKU had 5,000+.

If you get outdrawn, in perhaps your best sport, by a regional school 70 miles away and your campus is 3 miles down the road you have serious issues. No one is going to take you seriously when it comes to an economic decision that is predicated in attendance.

They also had the Big East/SEC challenge double-header with them playing South Florida and we played Marquette. They had the early game and maybe 200 Vandy fans showed up. If there hadn't of been several Vol fans that showed up early, there wouldn't have been hardly anyone at the game.

The difference between the Vandy board's reaction to Jones's raise and extension and the reaction on Kentucky's board is hilarious.

Vandy fans: He's overpaid, hasn't proven anything yet, recruits talent that he can't develop, almost lost to our terrible 3-9 team, and will keep Tennessee mediocre for years to come.

Kentucky fans (not all): Well deserved, he's recruiting at an elite level, he's a great coach, he mopped the floor with us and will have Tennessee competing for the East soon, etc. Even the fans who are critical of him still admit he's a decent to good coach, but that Tennessee's overall expectations have fallen in recent years, which is true enough.

I know Vandy fans hate us, but goodness...they really know nothing about football.

I love how their fans fail to realize that game was their super bowl.

This is actually a real thread over there.. They might have the dumbest football fanbase in America. Actually saying that the OC for the 49ers could be a candidate for Mason to take on as their new Coordinator. Do you think he would even pick up the telephone if called?

Vanderbilt Commodores Football, Basketball, and Recruiting Front Page

Ring . . . Ring

Hello?

Hi, is this Greg Roman, the offensive coordinator of the 49s?

Yes. Who is this?

Derrick Mason.

Who?

Derrick Mason, the head football coach at Vanderbilt.

Uh, okay. What is this about?

I wanted to talk you to see if you'd like to be our new offensive coordinator at Vanderbilt!

Harbaugh, is that you? Stop joking around! Vandy? Ha, as if! Click.

Very good chance Vandy goes 3-9 again next year with a chance at 2-10.

Brandon Doughty, the QB for WKU, their opening opponent, threw for 4,344 yds and 44 TDs this season and was just granted a 6th year of eligibility.

Yes, that's the same guy who was part of the turnover bonanza when they played us in 2013, but apparently he turned into a touchdown machine.

Their other OOC opponents are Austin Peay (win), MTSU (50/50), and Houston (likely loss).

Very real possibility they don't beat anybody except AP.

DM will be kicked out the door if Vandy goes 2-10 in 2015. Derek Mason makes Woody Widenhofer look like Knute Rockne.

I don't think they've ever had a coach who went winless in SEC play over his whole tenure. Good chance Mason becomes the first to earn such a dubious distinction.

This.

Honestly Austin Peay is the only definite W I see. MTSU owns them, and Western and Houston are both good enough to beat them.

Here's hoping AP plays their best game of all time. I'll volunteer to give the pregame pep talk.

Woody had some very good defenses...best I remember

Woody had them at 5-6 and blew 2 chances to get the sixth win. One they laid an egg at home against a bad UK team (much like 2005) and another blew a big lead against UGA. That was the game he called a fake punt in their own territory that changed the momentum that had been all Vandy.

LOL ok fess up, who here has been editing Vandy football's Wikipedia page?

At the end of the James Franklin section it says : "Due to Vanderbilt's sad and irrelevant history, Franklin is considered one of their greatest coaches of all time despite never finishing more than 9-4."

:)

With lack of fan support for Vandy it'll probably not be changed

I talked to my buddy who is a Vandy season ticket holder in football and basketball about this. He was telling me that a large group of the season ticket holders were upset that their season tickets didn't work so they refused to go. They didn't seem to grasp that it was not a home game.
