The Make Fun Of Virginia Tech Thread

grammarpolice.jpg

It is best not to make errors in grammar when posting about academics.

I wasn't going to mention that, as there are much more irritating grammatical errors to make, but one has to appreciate the irony.

I don't think you should challenge our integrity on this. What do we possibly have to gain from spreading falsehoods about a fan base? I'm just giving an honest report. I commend fans when they're good (always enjoyed Ole Miss and South Carolina fans, in general... really with one exception Georgia has been good as well), and I say when they're bad. I am very familiar with the Va Tech fan base, as my grandparents and cousins all live in Salem, VA. I go to the Virginia/Va Tech game every year since I am there for Thanksgiving. I've been to a number of other games there as well. I went to games at Va Tech before I ever set foot in Neyland Stadium. I go to TOTS if I am ever in VA on Wednesday. I've been to "parties" there (though y'all need to stop calling things parties that have a ratio of 9 guys for every girl there). I'm not making my statements up. Va Tech has a bad/redneck/classless fan base, though I'm sure you're an exception. That said, I still have not made it to the Swamp, and maybe they are worse there than Va Tech... but of the places I've been, Tech fans are the worst. And I know I am not alone in this sentiment.

They honestly believe they are the best program in the nation. 80 consecutive nationally televised games- on Thursdays, that is - has fooled them into thinking everyone wants to be like them.

PARTIES!?!?!?!? No no no no no....stay away from parties in Blacksburg. Far far away. I haven't been to one since 1st semester freshmen year. I'd say you really should make your opinion about our fanbase from a game other than that one. Try making an opinion about GT fans from their UGA game, or Auburn fans from the Alabama game. Its a really bad frame of reference.

We play one Thursdays for two reasons. One, ESPN pays us an insane amount of money to do it. Two, Beamer likes having two semi bye weeks rather than one big one.

About grammar? Sorry, I type fast, and don't really check it. Its not easy to keep up with 3 threads and finish up my independent study write up at the same time, especially when the report actually does have to be well written.

The first and last one I went to in Blacksburg I think was also my freshman year at UT with one of my friends that went to Va Tech for his freshman year. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

An "insane" amount of money to some schools is chump change to other schools. I'm sure the folks at ESPN decided UNC-Va Tech was the game of the year and paid millions extra to have that barnburner on Thursday night.

I like hot women, but this is make fun of a team.

Not lets see hot women
I can't decide who is a better justification for euthanasia, people who complain when you cheer at the ballgame or people who complain about pictures of hot women?

excellent question. i am going with the first for no other reason than its my biggest pet peeve. its close tho.

Never been to Arizona or Arizona State, I take it.....

Even players think Oregon's are the best. The current issue of ESPN Magazine has a survey...here's an excerpt.

Do you ever notice the other teams' cheerleaders?

Yes: 86 percent

No: 14 percent

Explanation
This one was an uncontested alley-oop during practice -- of course we notice the cheerleaders, players said. But when we asked the obvious follow-up question of who has the hottest cheerleaders, players weren't so unanimous. Oregon, winner of the same survey question in our College Football Confidential, won again, with 10 of 69 percent. The rest of the results:

1. Oregon: 10 percent
T2. Miami and UCLA: 7 percent
T4. Florida State and USC: 5 percent
5. Utah State: 4 percent
6. Louisville: 3 percent
T7. Arkansas, Florida and Florida International: 2 percent
T10. 22 schools with 1 percent

And the Football survey-
Do you notice the cheerleaders at other schools?

An overwhelming 81 percent answered yes. Players singled out seven schools: Clemson, Cincinnati, Florida International, Louisville, South Florida, UCLA and their No. 1 -- Oregon.

This isn't really making fun of...but have you guys seen Frank Beamer's daughter? Giggity!

Tech fans can be summed up pretty easily (this coming from a guy from Roanoke who dates a girl that goes to Tech and has been to a few Tech games):

1. Very, very arrogant. All I hear when I make fun of their lack of national titles is that "we will get one before Tennessee even gets close".
2. They loft their "Lunch Pail Defense" up to an unbelievable level of hype. It isn't hard to put up numbers against Furman, Marshall, and the ACC in general.
3. As someone said earlier, they staunchly and ignorantly defend the ACC, even going as far as saying that it will be the best conference in football by next season. I believe this is because Tech manages to win that awful conference with an average team every other year.
4. Tennessee fans are attacked daily. I don't even say anything to Tech fans I know and all I get is a rain of insults day in and day out. I hope we beat the living hell out of them, so those fans can shove a turkey leg up their nose.
and 5. What kind of team has to come up with cheesy names for almost every phase of their football team? "Lunch Pail D", "Beamerball"? Haha.

That's all, and GO VOLS!

#1 & 3 are on the money. I had a tech fan tell me today they were the "best" team in the ACC right now because they won the last 4 games. Games against ECU, Maryland, NC State, and UVA. When I responded that those teams are horrible. His response was well "I hope we kick your ***!"

Every year is the same thing, they need to be put in their place.

Pretty accurate. I don't know many Va Tech fans personally (I try to only associate with classy people), but the ones I have witnessed are worse than any Florida fans I've dealt with. I've been to a few games there, and was at the Va Tech at Virginia game this year. Never seen any other team that throws stuff and spits on people in an away stadium, just because their team got a first down. I've never seen a fan base so arrogant over accomplishing so little. I've never seen any Tennessee fans treat guests in our stadium like they treat their opponents, but I guess its because "we've been there before."

And we will win our seventh and eighth national championships before they ever get close to winning their first. They will never be relevant outside of the ACC, and if the top tier of the ACC (Miami, FSU, Clemson) ever turn it around, they won't even be relevant in that.

The first Tech game I went to someone threw popcorn, ice and trash at me and another couple because we were rooting for LSU. My buddy who was a Tech fan warned me that it would happen. It was pretty harmless but annoying.

Hey, whoever is crying about taking some jabs at VT must not live near a bunch of their fans/alumni.
These people are as arrogant as the Vandy people and just as hateful as the FL & Bama morons.
I'm already sick of hearing about how VT is STUCK playing the Tennessee Felons - yes, that's what they're calling our VOLS!
Unfortunately I'm not nearly as creative as most of the great people on this forum, so I'll have to leave it up to you guys to fire away at the Jokies every way you can.
Don't play nice. They aren't.

I love you man!

I was at that game, wearing my tn orange, the fans were the worst i've ever seen. Like new money, they don't know how to carry themselves and fall all over themselves to feel important
