The Make Fun Of Virginia Tech Thread

YIKES!!! I'm not really sure where you guys are seeing this. Only time I've really seen opposing fans treated poorly were WVU fans, and that was retaliation for several beatings in Morgantown. Actually I make a habit of going to opposing teams message boards after the game and usually at least 80% or so say they had a positive experience, although most say they were dissappointed with Enter Sandman. We made sure to take particular care of Nebraska fans this year. (They are the best around)

As a VT fan I would certainly understand that opinion... Florida fans like to think they are hospitable also.... I have several Bama and Auburn friends that have painted a very different picture of VT fans based on firsthand experience.... One that is unflattering to say the least. Maybe it would be different if Tech actually had the tradition (and Championships to match) that a portion of the fanbase seems to think they have. I would equate Tech fans with Georgia fans.... A lot of bragging for not much hardware....

C'mon man! That's not being fair to Georgia!

I'm from Georgia and I must say that both GT and UGA fans are awful. UVA and GT are among the few fanbases that will consistency bring academics into a football argument. (I was a little disappointed to see those jokes here though) UGA has a awesome student body, but where do they find those fans? Biggest group of rednecks I have seen outside of Morganhole. There are some extreme rural parts of Virginia too, but most VT fans come from DC and Richmond, not redneck cities by any stretch.

Every fanbase has their fair share of rednecks. Florida's are easily the worst. Don't fool yourself with regard to VT fans- we all know better. My point about Georgia is that they do have a rich football tradition. VT does not.

Usually the hallmark of a losing program.... See Vandy.... Notre Dame is almost about to qualify for that status also... Stanford (Pre-Harbaugh, of course....) is another "We graduate more players than you" type of program.... I have to admit though that it is a somewhat valid argument. Schools with high academic standards are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to big-time athletics... Hard to find kids with 4.0 GPA's that can also burn a 40-yarder in 4.3....

UGA has a DECENT tradition.... Not nearly as grand as they would have you believe. To hear the average UGA fan tell it they are on par with Alabama.... The facts just don't back it up however....

I live in Bristol , in between TN and tech . The fans here are split fairly even . My favorite line to all the techsters here is the best team they ever beat was a 6-5 Miami team the year FSU gutted them in the sugar bowl . Really upsets them . It's funny I never saw any tech hats , shirts , etc .. until the dogfighter got there.

i go to a university 10 miles away from tech (radford hence the sn) and i can assure you they are as unbearable as any fans (i lump them with cowboys fans as i am a skins fan unfortunately). They are dilusional as hell every preseason because of their always high ranking at the beginning of the year but always low ranking (if at alll) at the end of the year.

I think the best part about tech talking so much trash is that they have 0 National Championships as a University, ZERO and they're in the holy ACC. Shut up and admire your empty trophy case.

Most VT fans will freely admit that we pretty well sucked prior to Beamer. Before him we were essentially on par with the good mid major teams, somewhere around ECU area. However we have been most consistent than anyone else since then. The only two schools that can match our 10 win season streak are Texas and USC. The only team that can match our 12 year 8 game streak is UGA, and they are in danger of losing it this year. You might say that 8 wins is easy, but no one else has done it for as long as we have.
Yes we do play pretty good schedules. Going back to 2002 the only season where we didn't have a good OOC opponent was 2006.

Cumulative Overrated/Underrated Teams

We haven't had a big fall off since 2003

I'm sure there are lots of exceptions, and I'm glad that you're one of them. But I've traveled to a lot of random football games just for the fun of it, including WVU and Va Tech, and Va Tech's fans are worse. At WVU, they're certainly sore losers. But Va Tech fans are both sore losers and sore winners.

At the Va Tech / Virginia game this year, I got to my seats and some Va Tech fans were sitting in my seats. When I tried to get them to move, they made a scene because "they were there first." The morbidly obese man and his wife of similar size then continued to cuss me out and make a scene, so I watched from the end zone instead, where I got to witness more of the same stuff towards Virginia fans... in their own stadium. And it was not just a few bad people, but a sizable portion of Tech fans.

If you're from Georgia, how on earth did you become a Va Tech fan? I've always thought that the Va Tech fan base ends at the Virginia state lane.

There are a lot of VT fans in Georgia. I was born in Virginia and have family that has been there as long as the University has existed. When I filled out my application to be a student I ran out of room on the legacy section.

edit: Also, I'm really don't think you can judge a fanbase off of their behavior toward their in state rival. I really haven't seen said behavior toward UVA fans, but either way, not the right environment for fan judging.

"oh but wait! you can't count this... oh, and don't talk about this.. and this, oh, that's not fair."

Funny.....that seems to be exactly what your fans think about us when talking about the Miami and Nebraska wins.

edit: I still don't have too much reason to believe your report is necessarily accurate anyway. Like I said, I make a habit of visiting other teams boards and reading their reactions about the game. I almost always hear positive comments from everyone. Only exceptions seem to be from some SEC teams who, after dealing with a lot of SEC fans in Georgia, probably deserved it. (LSU fans didn't have a problem with us either trip)

Excuse #4 = Delusional.

I read a lot of message boards and I see a lot more glowing reviews than negative ones. I don't even read the kind of things I'm reading here on WVU or UVA message boards. Certainly if it was that bad it would make its way on thesabre (uva message board) wouldn't it?

How did our "Make fun of" thread become a referendum on the quality and behavior of VT fans?

Every fanbase has its good and bad fans....

I want to get back to pictures that make fun of (in a fairly respectable, light-hearted way) a team that uses a castrated turkey as its mascot....

It is best not to make errors in grammar when posting about academics.

I don't think you should challenge our integrity on this. What do we possibly have to gain from spreading falsehoods about a fan base? I'm just giving an honest report. I commend fans when they're good (always enjoyed Ole Miss and South Carolina fans, in general... really with one exception Georgia has been good as well), and I say when they're bad. I am very familiar with the Va Tech fan base, as my grandparents and cousins all live in Salem, VA. I go to the Virginia/Va Tech game every year since I am there for Thanksgiving. I've been to a number of other games there as well. I went to games at Va Tech before I ever set foot in Neyland Stadium. I go to TOTS if I am ever in VA on Wednesday. I've been to "parties" there (though y'all need to stop calling things parties that have a ratio of 9 guys for every girl there). I'm not making my statements up. Va Tech has a bad/redneck/classless fan base, though I'm sure you're an exception. That said, I still have not made it to the Swamp, and maybe they are worse there than Va Tech... but of the places I've been, Tech fans are the worst. And I know I am not alone in this sentiment.

PARTIES!?!?!?!? No no no no no....stay away from parties in Blacksburg. Far far away. I haven't been to one since 1st semester freshmen year. I'd say you really should make your opinion about our fanbase from a game other than that one. Try making an opinion about GT fans from their UGA game, or Auburn fans from the Alabama game. Its a really bad frame of reference.
