It's funny that we drool over a defense that has a ton of tackles, yet can't ever get off the field. How many of those were meaningful? If the other team has the ball for the entire second half, probably going to rack up on tackles.

i was next to the student section, and i did see several students leaving! that was disappointing

As a fanbase, it's kind of a double standard to have a negative attitude when we are losing (leaving early, starting threads on msg boards about next HC, the Fooley threads, etc) and then expect it to not affect the team.

How about Dooley field a running game and then maybe people will stay. No one can bear watching his soft style WAC football much longer.

Spurrier ran all over us with a 5th string back!

And don't bring up if we had Bray and Hunter....we couldn't even run the ball on Montana with them in there. Even if Bray dominates next season through the air, it won't matter if we can't control the line of scrimmage. We will still be an average team at best. Games are won and lost in the trenches.

I completely get that. I just don't see the point of people letting it make them miserable and leaving with over a quarter left once they've spent the time and money to be there anyway.

I think they are lucky it was still half full. When was the last time UT fans had something to cheer about? Not this year, not last, two years ago at South Carolina? I devoted 12 hours of my Saturday to that game, that's a whole lot of my free time. I then go to watch players committ pee-wee football mistakes.

And the whole "kids" argument is silly. I was on scholarship at UT for my academics. If I failed to complete basic algebra, I would have had my scholarship revoked. These aren't kids, they are adults. Stop babying them, and maybe they wouldn't jump offsides on a 4th and 1.

I do not agree with this concept of blaming the fans for poor results on the field. Yes, players feed off the fans, but the reverse is also true.

Or it could have been because the offense was so pathetic that an 11 point lead was clearly, clearly too much to overcome.

But let's blame the fans for losing the game.

I have the same basic argument with my wife every time we go to a Braves game and it gets to be a 4+ run game and it's the 6th inning or later. She regards the time and money as a sunk cost at that point, and thinks that all we're doing at that point is making it an even worse investment by making it even later that we get home when we've got to get up in the morning, etc etc. She regards leaving early when the game's effectively over as a way of mitigating a bad night by getting some of that time back.

Fortunately she never bothers to try that at a UT football game, but that's because we only get up there a couple times a year. I have a certain amount of sympathy for guys who are sitting there with there with their wives when it's 10 pm and 40 degrees and everyone knows it would take a flat-out miracle for the team to come back and win.

That's easy.

1) The outcome was obvious after the 98 yard drive in which they primarily ran the ball since Spurrier rightfully didn't trust shaw.

2) I cut an hour off my traffic time by leaving a few minutes early.

I, for one, am tired of the beatings UT has consistently been taking. However, name one other losing team that puts 96,000+ (including myself) in the stands this late in the season. I will agree that it was a dead, uninvolved crowd throughout the game but what do you expect after the month we've had.

I basically block out the entire day to go to the game. That includes drive time, tailgating and getting out of traffic and back home or to a hotel after the game. I try to get there at least 3 hours before game time.

I've seen the good times and the bad and average times. You can't control what they do on the field so I have a great time tailgating with friends and know I'm going to spend the entire day doing the game festivities. If you are a hit and run fan that just goes to the games then you are short changing yourself. You are missing the other part of the experience. And until we get a roster that we are used to seeing on a yearly basis, that may be all you have for awhile.

People left b/c they've seen this happen so much over the last few years that they feel there is no hope. Our offense couldn't move the ball and when presented with opportunities they pissed them away. Injuries combined with youth, poor coaching, and poor management of the A.D. have us in the position we're in today.

Listen folks, I was raised to be an ardent Tennessee supporter, however the fact is that this Tennessee team is just plain ugly to watch! I mean it is almost mind numbing at times. The defense appears to be maturing and played pretty well on saturday but I am not going to be scolded by an athlete - former athlete about how I or any other Tennessee fan should "support" the team!!!

The University of Tennessee never gave me anything besides a stack of parking tickets, a high number of foreign professors who could barely speak english and a diploma that I paid handsomely for. Everytime I turn around the AD is asking me for more money - increasing my tix prices, increasing my "donation" level and gouging me on concessions. I like EA but when has he ever come out of his pocket to attend a UT football game or any UT sporting event?

IMO, Halloween parties may have played a part for students. What would you rather do? Watch the Vols implode against South Carolina or go to a party with girls dressed up as slutty wiches, cheerleaders, pirate wenches, etc.

I wasn't at the game but here's how the conversation went with my wife after the P.W. didn't get into the endzone for the pick 6:

Me: "Hopefully we can at least get 3 out of this."
Wife: "They're on the 2, surely they'll score a td."
Me: "You don't understand."
Wife: "It's only 6 feet!"
Me: "Uh-huh. Just watch."
Wife after int: "That sucked!"
Me: "This isn't over, yet. Watch what's about to happen."
Wife after 20+ play drive: "You mean UT can't go 6 feet but the other team can go 98 yards?"
Me: "STFU!...Sorry honey, will you make me a double JD on the rocks?"
Wife: "After watching that, sure. Look at all those people leaving. If you were there would you leave?"
Me: "Hell no!...As long as I had booze."

Awesome, but sad that it's come to "uh-huh. Just watch." I personally turned the tv off when Simms came in. First time in my life I have ever not watched a game to the end of any team I support. Except my Lions, I'm only allowed to watch 2 quarters of play. If I watch a full game they're guaranteed to lose.

The solution to helping this program is stay and cheer and let the recruits know we are behind this team leaving serves no purpose. Why would recuits come and play for half empty stadium? Its a vicious circle. Things will get better.
