They also lost that game. And saban later said mau have been wrong thing to do.

Plus, Kiffin has as much say in staying for the National Championship game as Saban did. Lane can recruit, he can coach, and he can energize the fan base. This is a no-brainer if it's a possibility.

Kiffin played him tougher than anybody in the one game he was here. Saban needed luck to win that game and he got it. But I still don’t see as any more than a mediocre coach with a cult following. He’s had a few highs, but just as many lows. And not to mention the temperature of Knoxville when his name comes up. He is like Trump. To some he is Elvis and to others he is Hitler. His hiring would not unite the fan base for that reason. That would all change if he could come in and win right away. But I personally haven’t seen anything that would make me believe we would ever win more than 8 games on a regular basis with him. He is in many ways still a gamble, as you properly stated about his possible maturation. I don’t think this AD, or any top notch one would take all of this into consideration and hire him.

If Kiffin comes back to Knoxville it's because he wants to make it right for everyone involved. It means he is hungry and that is what we need to beat Bama. Kiffin knows offense, I think being under Saban helped him grow as a coach. He has pretty much said he regrets how it all went down, if he comes back it's for all the right reason and I truly believes he wants too. I think he knows he has more resources at UT than Mississippi and I think he would love to make amends. What a story it would make it he came back and got us back to the top, it would erase the entire period we have went through since the night they left. Redemption for all. And yes I was mad as anyone when he left, but time heals and things change and oh the irony if it all came together in a happy ending.GBO!!!!!!

If Kiffen was announced, and the first thing at the press conference he gave a humble, adult, mea culpa confession of hubris, youthful selfishness, or getting stars in his eyes,

AND burned a mattress & a USCw hoodie--on The Rock--to atone for his sins...

AND promised to take his McDonalds' orders without the bag...

yeah. VFLs might forgive and embrace him.

Winning will unite the fan base. If Kiffin came and won, he would unite the base. Kiffin was doing good and getting the recruits when he left here. He isn't coming back to leave this time if he took it. All Kiffin needs is a good DC and staff. He knows qb's and offense much better than most of the coaches out there. GBO!

It should also be noted when discussing Kiffin that his turnover gimmick at Ole Miss this year was a bag of money. The irony alone is just, I mean, you can’t make this stuff up.
But seriously folks, leave the man alone. They’ll build a statue of him down there if he wins the East once and averages 8 wins over 5 years. It’s laid back and out there far enough for nobody to care much about whatever shenanigans he decides to get into. He is not built for turning around a program on fire, as he plainly demonstrated at USC. Just let the man enjoy his pressure free life until some school with a beach has another opening.

Yes. Not my first choice but we let Dickey have another shot after he left in the middle of the night. Most Vol fans that experienced that were 100 percent convinced that Dickey threw the bowl game and never forgave him but later generations were fine with him.
