I think it’s too late. Kiffin made it back to P5 head coach. You missed him. Now, if he gets fired from ole Miss, fine. You can have him after that.

Are you really trying to tell me thAt Kiffin is a better coach than than Bobby Petrino? Do you really want to go on record in front of your friends and family with that as your final answer? We aren’t talking about coed interest here, as that is a conversation for the rumor mill to fight to the death over. But straight up head coach-Petrino or Kiffin? You hire Petrino 1001% of the time or you are an idiot.

Look at the resumes. Petrino has been a HC at Louisville, Arkansas, Western Kentucky and Murray State.

Kiffin has been with the Raiders, TN, FAU, USC and now Ole Miss.

I would take Kiffin over Petrino. There is a reason why Petrino hasn’t gotten a big time job. You are the idiot if you can’t see that.

Look man-I wouldn’t touch either one of them with a ten foot pole. Petrino got caught and kiffin didn’t. Other than that, Petrino is the more accomplished head coach and I don’t see how that is debatable. But coaching accolades aside, they are pretty much the same person. My argument was that one is available and one is not. If you want one, why not the other?

Because Kiffin is younger and more innovative. He is a better offensive mind. He has worked with Saban. Also, I believe he wants the TN job. And that’s one of the more important things.

I hear you. But he also screwed this university big time. Hard to overcome that. And we would owe his current employer a sack. Current situations may make that harder. All in all though, Petrino is the easier hire if you are comparing apples to apples.

Some of ya'll still mad AF at your GF from 30 years ago for standing you up...lol. Kiffin is an awsome coach..he didn't cause the spiral. He left for a better job at hia DREAM SCHOOL...get over your butt hurt feelings....
You and I define awesome differently. It has nothing to do with him leaving. I just don’t see a .632 coach as awesome. He’s a decent coach for sure and an upgrade, I’ll give you that.

I would be fine with that, but why would he leave Ole Miss where he was the money and support for a job where he has to prove it or get nothing? I think he's happy where he is. Tennessee is a better job normally, but with NCAA problems and the wreck our program has become, I see very little incentive for him to come here and not get a long, lucrative contract.
I don’t think he’ll ever be back at TN but I think he does regret leaving now and wants to come back to redeem and prove something. Plus TN > Ole Piss

If you’re going down that road you have to throw Freeze in the mix.

Ah yes but it depends on how much he wants the job and what he feels like he owes us after screwing us.

what do you expect him to do or say when he’s coaching somewhere else right now
My point is this: There are so many other jobs he will undoubtedly be a candidate for in a short period of time. There's no reason to believe he would choose to come back to Tennessee when we've been a dumpster fire for 15+ years combined with incoming bowl bans and scholarship reductions. One would have to be a moron to make that change, and Lane's not a moron.

Another year or two of solid results at Ole Miss, without incurring any major violations, will propel him back into top 5-10 level coaching jobs (many of them in the SEC). And unfortunately, with the current state of our program, Tennessee isn't anywhere near the top 10 jobs in the country.

Freeze wants/wanted to be here. I wonder how the incoming violations/probations/etc. affect his interest. That combined with hiring a coach with his past while on probation. It doesn't seem like it's likely to happen from a logic standpoint. That said, I hope we get him. And I have a feeling the top-level boosters are wanting the same thing.

I’d lean towards Freeze over Kiffin myself but they’re not far apart.

Y’all may think I’m nuts, and I’m not sure I would approve, but think about this. There are a LOT of people that wanted Kiffin the first time around and still a significant # of people now that he’s done well at 2 other stops. There was no way Kiffin was getting hired back to UT by Fulmer. But now it’s announced Fulmer is stepping aside.....
