The Jarrett Guarantano hate

JG actually played better than I expected last night. But, and it is a big but, he is so inconsistent that it is maddening. As a 5th year SR he should not still be staring down receivers and air balling wide open receivers. He did manage the game well and didn’t have any turnovers. This will win games against inferior competition but won’t win games against the better teams we face this year. We need better.

Wow, didn't know I would hit such a nerve. So yes, shame on me for expecting more from a 5 year QB. I guess Vegas is correct in that they know as long as JG is QB, all games will be close against a bad team and not so close against good teams. During this 7 game winning streak, only two teams (Kentucky & Indiana) have winning records. I was simply pointing out the concerns for the last 3 years and as long as he is in there, expect under throws, over throws, throwing behind, throwing open receivers into coverage, and throwing late. I am not sure how you can watch that game and not see if we had better QB play, it would have been a blow out. Teams will stack the box and dare us to throw. So enjoy close wins against bad teams, as for me, I want to see improvement to compete with the top teams, and get separation from the middle/bottom of the pack teams.
Wishful thinking I guess, but glad you are satisfied with mediocre and winning the tax slayer bowl.
You don't have to defend yourself against what is obvious for all to see. Don't let people make you feel bad about calling a spade a spade. Next year when all the good quarterbacks are drafted to the NFL and Guantanamo is making balogna sandwiches down at the homeless shelter you will no longer hear from these people.

The things that will lose us games against the good teams is leaving easy points on the table. Tennessee left 14 to 21 points out there on the field due to easy wide open passes not being executed correctly. I Hope that the rust got knocked off and next week Tennessee won't leave those easy points just laying out there unclaimed.

Probably win the trophy for having the most fans in the country too stupid to realize it's quite an accomplishment coming off the previous couple of seasons and the porous SEC rosters we were putting on the field just 2 short seasons ago.

Probably get the trophy of having a few idiots like yourself that are fine with crappy QB play just because the team is slightly better than the year before. That’ll win against FL, Bama, and GA for sure.

It dumbfounds me to read all of this hate over a kid. First, this is a kid. He may legally and technically be a man but still, he is just a kid. Not only that, but he is doing something productive such as going to college to get an education and, though I don't know anything about his or his parents financial abilities, football is providing an avenue for him to do so. Just how many of you negative posters actually have an investment into the University such as a degree, donor, booster or played football for the University? Or, are you just a fan? Second, I remember reading on this forum several years ago how many of you thought he was going to be the next biggest thing since Peyton. Third, and to me most importantly, how many of you haters have or could be an SEC starting QB? Even with as bad of a team as we currently have, how many of you posters that continuously dog him out could even make the team as a walk on much less supplant him as the starting QB?

Granted, there may be more or other options at QB but most of the posters on here are personally attacking a kid. Now, I know I'm going to get flamed for this but what is wrong with ya'll?

(1) Criticism doesn't necessarily mean "hate".
(2) He's an adult who plays a game on television. That opens him to discussion of his performance in the game, especially from people with emotional/intellectual investments in the outcome of the game.
(3) Neither of the above is dependent on a person's reason for watching, following or cheering. The requirement for a degree, etc is irrational and ridiculous.
(4) Neither 1 and 2 dependent on the fact that JG is on football scholarship.
(5) People are wrong all the time. Just look at your post.
(6) 1 and 2 are not dependent on the commentator's experience as a quarterback either. One doesn't need a degree in physics to know that someone fell off a ladder.

Better than being too stupid to realize that winning games over teams you're supposed to beat is a good thing.

JG has a maddening characteristic that belies his stats. JG's headline, surface stats are actually not bad. He does not throw many TD passes, but he also does not turn the ball over very often (33 TD, 13 INT in 673 attempts). His career completion percentage is 61%, which is way higher than what it seems given how inconsistent he can be and how many simple throws he makes. He's thrown for 8 yards per attempt in his career, which is also not bad. If you just watch him play the position, you'd think his career stats were much worse than that.

Another simple minded take, I don't see or know of anyone that is happy with mediocrity. All I see are yahoos like yourself making nothing but negative predictions and giving us nothing but negative views of our wins.
Agree. Wonder why Pruitt & staff don't consult these VN "experts"?

Simple minded is you pointing out your family member’s stats that he’s a good QB while he overthrows or throws late continually.

Wonder if JG has a vision problem? The old objects appear further, is the reason he’s over throwing

Overall I thought JG played pretty well given the very limited amount of reps he has had with the receivers due to covid tracking etc. I realize he overthrew numerous guys and we probably left at least 14 points out there but I thought his decision making was good. Listening to Pruitt post-game made me feel a lot better and just thankful for a W for the good guys!! GBO!!

He is not setting his feet on the overthrows. His timing with receivers if off at times and throws behind receivers. He is indecisive when in the pocket after going thru his reads. Very rarely throws ball away.
As a 5th yr Sr he should not have the issues.

It's because the nega minded crowd only acknowledges what he does bad. Nearly every single NegaVol neverJGer has mentioned for a year now the throw JT made deep to Calloway was something JG simply couldn't do, I wonder if they will bring up the throw he made to Palmer to win the game. I doubt it as I've not heard them mention more than once the great throw he made to Jennings to help beat USCjrs last season. Those good throws they say he can't make ruin their little weak narrative as highlight reels are starting to show more of those type throws each new win we pick up.

Keep in mind your arguing with a guying clinging to Vegas' line as proof the game should have been close yet he predicted 18 point VOLS W....funny...even he predicted a 2 score win

Vols 31
USCjrs 13
Yards 178

i can only remeber about 10 of 31 attempts that actuallt were thrown accurately...and that included the 2 handoffs of the sweep to velus JG gets credit for

Sure did as I thought our DBs would dominate their WRs. Missing 3 key defenders hurt our chances and USCjrs performed better than I thought they would. Hitting 31 right on the number was pretty good I thought.

So then your saying SC defense is just as good as ours???

There were also some drops that would have been big difference makers. The long ball downfield to the right shoulder with the receiver looking over the left was on the receiver. JG threw to the open spot on that one and had the Rec caught it would have been 6. Also dropped a crucial 1st down late.

If your refering to the deep ball to Keyton that was thrown wrong shoulder and short..even the broadcasters pointed that out
