Of course it benefits him, you are forgetting his audience (which you are evidently a part). These are the people who supported a a candidate who lead maniacal chants of "lock her up".
Had Biden been investigated and found not guilty, it would have made absolutely no difference to Trump and his followers; just as Hillary having never been found guilty in any of the numerous investigations of her has made no difference in how she is viewed.

The assumption that it would benefit Trump says nothing about Biden but much about Trump and his minions.
