The Impeachment Thread

I don’t agree. I don’t see a ton of ground being made up by anybody who complains about partisanship when you’ve got McConnel and Graham going on national television promising to rig the trial. It takes two to tango on the partisan thing, and everybody I know who isn’t paying attention to this just assumes both sides are stupid and partisan. Everybody who is paying attention has made up their minds.

I think she’d be smarter to just send it over and let them do a sham trial and vote to dismiss, if they can do it, and then campaign on that, but maybe she feels like she can gain something by taking the side that they need to call witnesses since that is apparently a popular opinion.
I agree that it's less damaging to send it over. At least she can claim belief in it

A better chance at both sides agreeing they didnt like how it appeared or went down.

Dems avoid being accused of overreaching and blood thirsty about impeaching from the beginning.
Dems can still propagate about disagreeing with him on method, stick to biden being a conspiracy theory, etc.
It would probably have been bipartisan too.

Just to name a few
I can imagine the first censuring of a duly elected president along party lines in the history of America. Yes the GOP is like that.

Also, Septic, painting pelosi or Schiff or anyone over there as some mastermind is a little silly given the russian collusion nonsense. I wouldn't get my hopes up on that one.

They drug Trump through the mud for two years over the election interference issues. It's naive to think that many of their goals weren't met, Pelosi is politicking circles around the whole of the GOP and it's not debatable. I mean, she just impeached the g.d. president.

But the senate can just shrug their shoulders and Republicans can spin as a "See they dont have a case which is why they don't forward it for judgement".

The longer its held the more it looks like a partisan gimmick and they dont really believe he can be impeached. Thatll be the message and it seems like, as predicted, a lose lose situation for Democrats.

They should have censured Trump. Not tried to impeach.
The radical base and the ones running the party wouldn’t be satisfied with simply censure.

And now eggs are being thrown at their faces for it. Now the obama administration is being viewed a little differently and some conspiracy people are being validated. The news being controlled ones, especially. The amount of people who have lost trust in the news is astonishing. That's just a microcosm. If Pelosi was "politicking circles" around trump, the vote wouldn't have been split down party lines. If the house were run by Republicans, she wouldnt have an impeachment. that's not politicking circles around anyone.

She held the vote.
They had only two defections.
The senate majority leader is promising to fix the outcome.
Good luck selling the narrative that Pelosi is doing this because she doesn’t believe in it.
🤷🏻‍♂️

the “sham” trial goes both ways though. Any chance those 4 Democrat presidential candidates will actually consider it thoughtfully?

Your view is hyperbole on fixing the outcome. Not everyone views it as being fixed by one side.

Pelosi gonna withhold the impeachment...

Gotta admit. It's pretty clever to hold this over his head. Not sure if it's the wisest course of action, but damn it will be entertaining.

You also believe in people "proving their innocence" Justice is not your strong suit.
You guys just aren't very good with subtleties.

If you are found standing over a dead body covered in blood and holding the murder weapon, and thus found to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt; but you are in fact innocent, I would think you would probably wish to speak up and defend yourself.

Or you could refuse to cooperate and be wrongly convicted. I do agree the choice is yours on whether or not you wish to defend yourself.

“Everything I do during [the impeachment process], I’m coordinating with White House counsel,” McConnell said on Fox. “There will be no difference between the president’s position and our position, as to how to handle this.” "There is no chance the president is going to be removed from office."

And you dont understand that it is not enough to convict. Were you mad about the central park 5?

But they'd some how be validated watching a pointless and incomplete impeachment attempt?
When they turned their party over to most radical people in the country this is the kind of stuff that will happen. Pelosi would have been run out of DC if she didn't move on this fake impeachment

Schiff was no different. Stop acting like it's one sided.

Question about Trump's potential 2nd term:

So in my view, their are exactly two things that motivate Trump: Money and Power. Everything else is noise. IMO he never expected to win the presidency, rather he viewed it as an incredible marketing tool to promote himself. And, yet, here we are... debating what may happen if he wins again next November.

Given term limits and his age, Trump would no longer be constrained by having to please ANYONE if he were elected again. So, the kiddie gloves would come off. Add to this the fact that the Congress (i.e. Senate) will have given him a green light allowing blatant self-dealing. The result: a new type of president we've never seen. One that uses the office effectively to enrich himself. And, why not? He's already told us all back in January, 2016 that his supporters wouldn't care if he shot someone on 5th Avenue. TRUMP IS A BUSINESSMAN, PURE AND SIMPLE. What motivates businessmen? Money and power. He could care less about stupid policy, NATO, global warming, Mexican cartels.

2021-25 Example: Trump tells his emissaries to approach a foreign country, say, Italy. Italy is told that it has an option: License Trump's businesses for a huge casino in the Italian city of his choice, or America will slap 100% tariffs on Italian wine imports.

You Trump supporters ready for this? You OK with Trump turning up his corruption to 11? I mean, it's not like he would face any consequences. And if you actually think he gives a flying rats a$$ about YOU or anyone other than someone named Trump? HA! You're dreaming.

Your post is so full of . . . assumptions that they are not even worth the time to refute and debate because one sure fact is, nothing will change your mind.
As far as being ready, we are about as ready for the extreme butt hurt, pussyhat protests, antifa riots, law suit filings and more impeachment hearings that y'all gave us this last time. Not to mention more ridiculous posts/threads created by LG, you, (what happened to your last poll?) and the rest of VN's PF posse of deluded self righteousness.
