The Impeachment Thread

Good question. That's how it is supposed to work. The wily Dems however, are now holding tight to the articles and saying they will only deliver to the Senate once the Senate has agreed to the Dems' terms for the trial i.e. that the Dems will be able to call certain witnesses and get all the documents they desire...

The plot thickens!
Bham explained it's like a grand jury in the house. If so, Nancy should have no influence in the trial besides her indictment.

I don't know who 'they' are but I agree that his supporters and detractors are nothing if not slightly more entrenched. People in the middle probably won't be moved much, some will ride or die with his economic success others less so.

that's one key to 2020 - if the economy stays out of recession then this will be a positive for Trump.

the other key is who the Dem nominee is. Biden still looks to be the best chance for getting the middle but I have my doubts he'll look physically/mentally with it. Warren/Sanders would need a massive economic meltdown to win the middle. Mayor Pete is a wildcard.

I can base it on how impeachment galvanized the left for Clinton. I believe it will do the same for the right.
Clinton was damn site more popular then trump. Secondly, the Dems were excellent at claiming it was a moral failing of Clinton’s. Hell two of them did it on here today. Instead of the real reason for Clinton’s perjury which was to prevent discovery that he had a history of inappropriate conduct with subordinates. And the GOP did a crap job explaining it.

More or less then those who supported him initially bc of who he was running against the first time? More or less then those who sit in the sidelines bc they don’t approve of his conduct?
You are right. Also, a key factor is that 3rd party candidates received 5.3% of the popular vote in 2016. That is higher than normal and it is a sign that there were many voters who didn't like either Trump or Clinton but still wanted to cast a vote anyway. There is no way to know what those people will do if it is Trump vs Biden. It is a different dynamic.

He did prevent them from testifying. That's why it's so crazy for the repubs to cry about no fact witnesses.
Im sorry, i cant keep up with everything. It's too fast. Your post was implying something to hide bc they ignored subpoenas, i thought?

I think everybody knew who Trump was before the last election. I have seen no surprises from him. He is who I thought he was, and he will get all 3 of my votes again. I have homes in 3 states, 2 of which are swing states.

not my area of expertise - none of this is tied to criminal procedure so I wouldn't be surprised if she could hold it.

I believe each party picks a "manager" as interface with the Senate. She'll control that on the Dem side. Hilarious (but predictable) that Dems are demanding Amash be the R side manager.

EDIT: I was mistaken about the proposed role for Amash. A group of Dems floated his name to be the D side impeachment manager. Apologies for the mistake.

Don’t count out Bloomberg. He’s not as crazy as the Warren/Sanders camp. And his mayoral run in NY is similar to how he entered this race. Plus deep f-ing pockets.

I have to disagree. I think there were millions who said we can’t have Hillary. Off the top of my head I know both my in laws and my mom voted for trump. All three say they won’t this time. My FL one caveat is if it’s Bernie or Warren. I know that’s just my personal experience but I think it holds a lot of water. People HATE Hillary.

My in laws are retired fed employees who usually vote Dem and my mom is 75/25 with her voting leaning to the republican side.

Impartiality is their most sacred pursuit. Lol

My understanding was that the Dems wanted Amash to be their manager in order to make it look less partisan.

But it's true that the Trump White House counsel went to great lengths to fight handing over the whistleblower complaint to Congress. The complaint was submitted to the office of the IG on August 20th. Congress is supposed to get it within 15 days. They did not get it for 4 weeks. The White House counsel knew it was bad. They also knew they had to release the hold on that military aid before the House Oversight Committee got a hold of that complaint. The chronology of events here is really very damning for Trump.

I know it's not a criminal proceeding but if it were I'd argue the Dems failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt. The only "fact" witness testified he was told it wasn't being held up for a quid pro quo and the rest of the witnesses including him admitted it was their "assumption".
