The Impeachment Thread

Feel free to join him in the “FDR was a conservative right winger” camp.

You are correct on this, FDR wasn't a conservative right winger. He was a socialist totalitarian although he probably was further right than the modern day dem party.

Thoughts?

I think this is wrong in that it elides what a court does in enforcing a subpoena and what Congress does in the impeachment process, but the main point remains--why, going forward, would any president feel obligated to comply with Congressional subpoenas that could uncover bad conduct in the executive branch if Congress has previously ruled that such disobedience is not grounds for impeachment?

Hmm, I remember a time when a US Attorney General at the Order of the President ignored several congressional subpoenas. I don't recall the left screeching for impeachment and removal then.

You've never been able to actually point at any tangible damage. Gay kids were all supposed to die right? Stock market was going to crash right? Civil rights were going to be overturned right? Blacks enslaved again right? What else did you scared babies cry about that never came to fruition?

Oh..Russia..OOPS.
Just answered in my previous post.

He's greatly increased the level of hatred and distrust between the two sides. He chose to be divisive from the start. That was his whole appeal. Did any of you actually think that would go over well?
Oh good lord, really? That's all you got?

You have NOTHING of substance. A big fat zero.

You need to be able to investigate. I guess we will have to go through the courts, if we end up someone similar to Trump in the future. It is a scary thought, because you never know what the future will bring.

What is sad, is that if the economy wasn't as good as it was, I believe the Republicans would not enable him to block witnesses or stand behind his conspiracy theories which help Russia. We'll see how the Senate trial goes but I'm not holding my breath.

Not the same thing. There was no question of impeachment in play there. An acquittal by the Senate will effectively say a clear disregard of Congressional subpoenas is not impeachable conduct.

So why was he not held in contempt? My bad he was.

Also, would this go to the US attorney?

I agree with you, now my question is why don't you all vote for him twice?

No impeachment was ever sought against Holder, so there was never a ruling -- from Congress itself -- that its own subpoenas to the executive branch are toothless. To the contrary, they held holder in contempt. That's the OPPOSITE of holding that their own subpoenas don't have to be obeyed.

Holder was acting on orders from the President and when congress did hold Holder in contempt ,our Chief Law Enforcement Officer refused to enforce it. So it was Obama who effectively made congressional subpoenas worthless.

I’m pretty sure that is because he is part of the executive branch and would then force this to go to the US attorney who is then also a part of the executive branch.

Unitary executive theory.

It is such a paper thin impeachment with zero tangible evidence that was based on feelings and assumptions. Of course its going to tick people off. The freakin dims pretty much handed 2020 to Trump and they dont even know it. When Trump wins watch how many networks point to this as the moment that destroyed the democrats chances. Biden is going to get the nod, two old White dudes on the stage, one with dementia and dentures (biden) and another who is an ass##le. Left wing nutjobs will be so emotionally distraught due to their fragile sensitivities voter turnout will be dismal.

And it will be glorious! I dont even care that Trump gets elected, I just want to enjoy the leftist meltdown.

So obstructing congress has precedent as not being a thing. Excellent.

Nothing that Congress did in relation to holder constituted a decision/ruling/verdict etc that it's own subpoenas did not have to be obeyed. That makes the situation strikingly different from Trump. Here the subpoenas were issued, they were ignored, and if the senate acquits, it will be saying that the executive branch is free to ignore Congressional subpoenas.

Do you want that as a precedent?

Will it upset you?

Then yes.

Another loss for Trump and a complete waste of tax payers dollars: The DOJ IG determined that the start of FBI Russia probe, called Crossfire Hurricane, was legally justified and unbiased.
All of this stuff is an absolute waste of time.

Congress issued subpoenas to Holder and at the direction of the President he ignored them. Then the President refused to enforce the contempt orders so he doubly thumbed his nose at congressional authority. The only difference is that congress chose not to start impeachment hearings because of it.

Umm, it already is precedent.

Do I mind is a President who has been under false attacks for 3 years ignores partisan subpoenas? No, hell I encourage it

And the Senate will acquit and I can just about guarantee you Manchin will also vote to acquit
