"Weelll, not a lot of plays in the playbook for 4th and 19" ... "Clausen back to pass, deep down the fiiiieeeld" ... "CAUGHT" ... "CeeeJaaayFayton for 21 yards, ohh myyy goodness" ... "1st and goal at the ..."

These words warm my ever hatin' Bama heart. Thanks for the memories Iceman!

The only fault I had with Casey was showing up to the SEC Championship game with a Rose in his mouth, then the LSU backup QB debacle happened.
However, that loss gave me the best gift ever a Jan. 1st. Citrus Bowl beating of Michigan.
That TN team was loaded with talent as well.

Probably the most loaded team we've ever had. We've never recovered from Kevin Burnett taking out LSUs starting QB. Was the Rose incident Casey or the moron fan on TV show during the broadcast?

Without a doubt, that team was unbelievable not to mention the freshmen that were on that team as well, K. Burdette & K. Simon were great follow ups to Raynoch & AL.
It's been 20 years, but I am pretty sure that he got it from the fan pregame and put it in his mouth for a pic which CBS was there to show it.

You know, he must have some seriously bad feelings for this place because ever since he graduated, I don't recall him EVER coming back here for any occasion. I could be wrong but I do find it strange that in 20 years he's never come back for a game or to speak or anything.
He has come back plus he coaches football, hard to fly across country to come to Knoxville

I remember the sitting in the end zone of the Peach Bowl and either Houston/Riggs fumbled inside the 20 going out. Instead of going for the fumble, Clausen just stood there and watched it. Not only did he not even attempt to cover the ball, he didn't even attempt to make an attempt to cover it!

That and Fulmer trying to pad his stats that game will all ways be my memory of him.

One the other hand:

Mathews vs. Applewhite

Interesting read on college football, politics and how big time college football works.

That team should have played for the national championship that year. I don't know if they would've beat Miami, but I know we would have gave them a better game than Nebraska.

The only people that believe Mathews was better than Clausen were Mathews parents.

Average qb surrounded by elite talent. He did have the clutch gene though, and tended to come through in big situations.

I remember him hitting CJ Fayton on 4th and 17 during overtime at Bama. Kept the game alive and ultimately delivered a win for the Vols.

I was at that game sitting with a Bama fan in a section of the stadium where the only person wearing orange was me. Got all kind of slaps on the back with words like "good game," "have a safe trip home," "y'all played good" etc. when it was 2nd and 1 and all Bama had to do was get a first down and game over. Also on the 4th and 17, same words. All I can say is they were all STUNNNED. The drive back home that evening listening to the Gump Network was fun, especially riding with 3 of the enemy.

So many people constantly complained about him because the the wins weren't as often as we always hope. I never understood the complainers. He was always out there busting his tail even though others weren't at that time. He was clutch. I'll never forget watching him run down a DB after an interception. WE had a RB that stood and watch as Casey ran the guy down. Man, I really like the Iceman.

One of my favorite game time play decriptions was when, in short yardage, Casey sneaked and dived over the line. It seemed to take a while for him to come down (man, his feet looked big) and when he did, the announcer said he "looked like an octopus falling out of a tree"! Priceless and accurate.
