The Horror Movie Thread

Also, I consider these films horror because I can't think of anything scarier than a deranged human or group
Of humans tourturing people. I don't find ghost, monsters, etc scary at all but can agree they are horror. Not saying I think Serbian Film is OK or whatever but I will classify it as horror.

Well I think your answer is in your post. It's considered body horror. Or shock horror. Hostel, Green inferno, Candy... All are what I would consider horrific stories

I guess I can't disagree with you, in that the word "horror" has multiple meanings.

It may simply be a matter of preference, but I prefer my horror movies to be scary. I want to feel fear, not revulsion.

Jaws
The Shining
Alien
The Thing
Psycho
Nosferatu
Diabolique
Suspiria
Let the Right One In
Babadook
Friday the 13th (parts 2, 4, & 6 are also great. Shoot, I own all 12 and I'm not even ashamed of it).
Night of the Living Dead
Halloween
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Silence of the Lambs
Ju-On
Audition
28 Days Later
The Abominable Dr Phibes
There's a movie from the early 70s called Mephisto Waltz that is not a great film, but the set design, cinematography, and soundtrack are brilliant.

I need to see The Audition. It's in my list. Those are some good films on your list there.

Side note. I think a film festival director in Spain got arrested for child porn after a showing of ASF

Audition is great. You may consider me a bit of a hypocrite because...

...there is some torture.

But the film is a brilliant slow build to an absolutely insane last reel. It seriously feels like a standard romance film with a mystery happening in the background, and then it just goes freaking nuts for about 20 minutes.

Major spoilers, but just so you know what you're getting yourself into.

A guy rapes a newborn baby right after delivering it. A woman is raped as she is being raped the guy cuts her head off with a machete and continues to rape. A guy sticks his erection into another guys eye socket to kill him.

The first scene mentioned I wanted to warn about because I know a few people that were really mad about it and understandably so.

what in the f'ing f..

I know. It's ridiculous. And I have standards that are pretty hard to disgust.

Btw, Audition is great.

I just watched A Serbian Film. It was on Youtube and in German so I only picked up on the swear words but yeah..movie had zero reason to ever be made other than to entertain some twisted shock value fantasies. It being made reminds me of the Human Centipede series. No redeeming value to any of it...like the new seniors trying to outdo the graduated ones when it comes to prank time.

That's the general opinion here and across the web. Some think it's a metaphor for how the Serbian government treat their citizens but from the bits and pieces I watched that's a stretch.

I didn't read the spoiler but I'll watch it. Sounds interesting

You kinda proved to me that warning people against seeing it just makes them want to see it more.

I agree, and add animals. Any kind of movie where its a bear, shark, etc. Gets me.

Ever seen Prophecy? Its from 1979. Scared the bejeebus out of me as a kid. It was only rated PG but man I watched in within the last few years and have no idea how it got a PG rating..its hokey as all get out though.

I think the thing about such movies is that, no matter how you slice it, sharks/bears/crocodiles/crazy people are, in fact, real. Every year real people die from something off that list...and that's scary.

Trying to find a group of movies I can watch at night leading up to Halloween.
Friday the 13th
Halloween
Children if the Corn
Nightmare on Elm Street
Hell I even watched Dusk til Dawn this week, just bc.

Just some classics that are pretty good this time of year. (Or any other time)

Add Trick r Treat

All of the listed are good traditions to watch. Here's another that I enjoy and I may be in the minority. Halloween 3: season of the witch. That movie is fun to watch this time of year.

Also while we're talking these extreme movies, has anyone seen Cannibal Holocaust? Saw it a few years back. Mostly just because I've seen all the other movies considered extreme and wanted to add it to my list.

I can't recall if I've seen all of Cannibal Holocaust, or just bits and pieces. I don't remember it being terribly interesting.

I can't remember it if I did. I need to check it out.
