1. There's going to be a lot of points in this. There's going to be a lot of talk in this thread and whatever. But there's one simple fact: You cannot expect to win a tournament game shooting 14-28 from the FT. And Purdue got lucky going 16-33. If Tennessee hits 22-28 like they should have we would be celebrating our second Elite Eight. And that's the toughest thing because free throws is something you completely control. Unbelievable.

2. My thoughts on the officiating after I calmed down. That wasn't 5 seconds and didn't look like the ball hit Edwards after the initial defense. I have no clue if he stepped out. That's such a bang bang play and wouldn't get overturned. It was a bad call on the foul. Contact was made yes and he was in the air, but the only reason contact was made is because he kicked his leg out. However, in that situation, with Edwards fading away and to his right, you can't be that close to him and jump. It was incredibly tough. Seems like it was 50/50 according to what I've seen by non UT fans on if that's a four or not.

3. Thought the perimeter defense was better in the second half. Not great in the first. Purdue hit some shots, but UT struggled to defend ball screens all game. Cline hit some ridiculous shots and Turner did a hell of a job on Edwards, but Tennessee really had some weak moments in the first half guarding. Purdue really put Alexander in a bind all game slipping screens. I hate switching but UT seemed to do better switching. Honestly with Cline probably didn't matter tonight.

4. If you have told me Tennessee would only give up 11 offensive rebounds, hit 12 3's, and only have 7 turnovers...I would have been 95% confident in the win. Goddamit. Just too many 3 pointers given up and a lack of offense in the first half. Too many scoring droughts, which has been an issue all season.

5. Lamonte Turner has the heart of the lion man. I freaking love that kid. He guarded Edwards with everything in his fiber, his legs gave out, he made all the big plays to get the comeback. That kid has some large brass balls and he is incredible. Lamonte, I will remember a lot from this game but I will not forget how ****ing hard you played tonight sir.

6. I don't know what happened since the Kentucky win at home, but Jordan Bone just wasn't himself again. Never controlled the pace of the game, was hesitant. Got his shot blocked a few times. Never made a true impact. I don't know what it is was but he never looked comfortable tonight.

7. Player of the game: Lamonte Turner. See point #5. Again, unbelievable effort from him today. The state of Tennessee should be proud of him.

8. My only Barnes complaint: I thought Bone should have guarded Cline late instead of Bowden. Bone is fantastic off the ball and we saw Bone shut Herro down three times this year. Not even a criticism on Bowden, but he just could not fight through those screens today. Bone is so quick he can avoid them and get in the face of shooters. I would have tried that, just to do something different.

9. Admiral Schofield: What you did for this program will never be forgotten. A key part of an SEC title. Winning record against Kentucky. Basically the de facto captain of the last two years (winning 57 games in those two years). I don't know if I can adequately describe what you mean to this program and what you have done for Tennessee Athletics. You are a true joy. And will become a fantastic representative of the University of Tennessee in the coming years. And to Kyle Alexander, you went from unplayable but had to play to one of the best rim protectors in program history. I was so impressed by how much you improved in these last three years. Both you and Admiral are incredible young athletes that will represent UT well into the future. It's truly a damn shame your careers had to end with this kind of loss. And you have nothing to be ashamed of in your careers. Congrats to both of you.

10. It's extremely difficult to try and put into words this season. I HATE HATE HATE just flat out saying it was disappointing. It's almost unfair but a preseason top ten team not making the Elite Eight/Final Four and not winning an SEC Title is tough. Winning 31 games and being #1 for a month was a great accomplishment. And that shouldn't be taken away. But at some point, this program (not even Rick Barnes or these guys currently on the team) has to break this glass ceiling. The program is now 1-7 in Sweet Sixteen games. Still hasn't made a Final Four. Still hasn't won an SEC tournament title in 40 years. At some point, I really hope Tennessee can take the next step up as a program. This year was a really good run for the program and Barnes is starting to get top-notch talent. He has reestablished Tennessee as a top 25 program and that was desperately needed after the Bruce Pearl debacle. If Grant comes back, 6/8 top players come back from last year and they add a five star in Josiah James. It could be another really fun Tennessee team. But tonight, all I feel is nothing but disappointment losing in OT like this. What a tough break.

Go Vols.

Well said, man. This one hurts and probably will for a long, long time. No other way to put it really. It will be right up there with the loss to OSU after being up 20. The loss to Michigan State to keep us from our 1st Final 4. And the loss to Michigan with the Stokes charge.

Boy am I gonna miss Admiral. Not sure I'll ever change my avatar. Never thought I'd come to love a player as much as Lofton, but Scho has to be up there and ironically, they both wore the #5.

#10 sums it up. I don’t know what is going to happen with Grant, but somehow this team has to build some quality depth, likely through grad transfers. I love our guys, but if Grant returns, we need to go all out and try to land the best scoring grad transfers we can. If it means cutting dead weight, we need to do that. Honestly, we need to do that anyways and use those scholarships on grad transfers and great 2020 prospects. The lack of depth has hurt this team down the stretch.

Definitely a tough one lose and I feel terrible for the players. I know this team has meant so much to so many and this one hurts just as bad as 2007--which again--was caused by poor FT shooting. That 2nd half was as good as gets though for entertainment though. Probably the best game of the tournament thus far.

Regular season title is meaningless. This team won games but didn’t accomplish anything. Just utter disappointment all around.

I disagree. I'd rather have the regular season title than the SECT title. It's a complete body of work vs a few games. Sad that they didn't reach any of the goals they set for themselves at the beginning of the year. Can't call it a wasted season but for all the talk about learning from last year, the disappointment, and missed opportunity, the same thing again this year. What a path to our first final four. Two years in a row where things appear to be set up perfectly for us and yet again we sit here with coulda, woulda, shoulda.

There is only 1 reason UT missed that many free throws in the first half, 1. Can't sugar coat it, it is what it is. Hit 70% and they only fall 7 or 8 points behind. Its remarkable they got to overtime with that guy hitting everything he threw up. Just think if he had shot a reasonable 50% during that stretch.

The only thing I'll say about #2 is if that was a foul then the shooter pushed off to get open and that should have been called. Either both are fouls and should be called or both are "let them play" situations.

Not only that but if they’re apparently focusing hard on shooters kicking their legs out, then rewarding a shooter by pulling his team out of the cluthes of defeat and advancing them to the Elite Eight when they do seems like a strange way to do it.

Especially when the defender has been telling you that said shooter has been doing it all game and any official worth half their weight in salt would be on the look out for it.

This is our team, records be damned. This team may not have broken that glass ceiling but I’ll be damned if they didn’t make me proud today with that comeback. They have a place in my heart forever.

Hit the gym boys; we’ve got work to do. Business to finish. I truly believe that.

God bless.

I really have to agree. Do u think an Elite 8 would have made the season more of a success ? I think it would have been huge in this team's final perception of UT greatness and if they made the Final 4, despite the lack of championships, would be monumental, of course. But, nope, we let it slip away. Man, this one hurts like the Cuonzo Michigan game, Pearl OSU game and Green's UNC game. U think I would get used to it. I also remember those 2 DeVoe and Ellis teams that lost to Virginia and Ralph Sampson

All of your points are dead on... Bowden struggled throughout and I too was hoping Barnes would make that switch but oh well.... Purdue would've beat almost anyone with the way they were shooting tonight

I guess I must just be an optimist at heart. I thought it was a tremendously entertaining game in which both teams put it all on the line. In any tournament only one team plays their last game without a loss. In this case, 67 of 68 teams will end their season with a loss.

Purdue just caught fire. We did all we could to come back, and had the odds in our favor near the end of regulation.

Until we get more talent, we are going to end up in these kinds of situations. We won last game, and this time the odds caught up with us. Of course, I'm disappointed with the outcome, but I was much more upset when we lost so badly to Kentucky and Auburn.

Agree they shouldn't have been in the position to lose on that last play of regulation - but it really sucked that they fought back through a horrendous first half, took the lead, and lost like that. f'ing unbelievable but f'ing typical. As I mentioned in another thread (and I know at least a couple other people noticed), Edwards pushed off on the last play (as he did several times throughout the game). Never heard the commentators mention that. Disappointing end, but the program trajectory is the most promising I've seen in over 25 years (Pearl was similar but blew it). I'm especially glad that Admiral played drastically better in the second half to end his career, though 2 or 3 more plays would have made a big difference. And to the miserable and complete DA that can't seem to stop whining in other threads about mediocrity and claiming the team quit, 31 wins and sweet sixteen is a step in the right direction for this program. The players and fan base expecting more is a step in the right direction. AS being undefeated against Kentucky at home is a step in the right direction. Having this kind of a season with an undersized front court is a step in the right direction. A little credit wouldn't take away your manhood.

All other controversy aside, the game was lost when Barnes decided to sit Grant for the first 2 min of overtime
I couldn't believe it. I was listening to Bob and Bert and when they said Grant was coming in, I was shocked, I just thought we took bad shots and didn't get him the ball

I had so much running through my mind that yeah I didn’t even think about that. Not a good move
I wonder if it was like an Admiral move in the Iowa game or keep him from making a stupid foul like that 4th one, twenty feet from the basket ?

Yep, just a bad move no matter how you look at it... you gotta let your best player play. While Grant was on the bench, Purdue built a 6 point lead and pretty much put the game out of reach
